Blaupunkt Stereo Drains my battery, WHY??

I installed a Blaupunkt Navigation stereo in my 2001 Golf. It's a Blaupunkt RNS 149 in dash Navigation Stereo. After installation I noticed that my battery dies if I don't drive the car for a day or two. I never had battery problems before so I have to assume its related to the stereo. I used a wire harness purchased from crutchfield to connect the new aftermarket stereo to the existing wiring. I did no splicing. To test my theory I pulled the stereo back out and switched the continuous 12V+ lead with the Batt. Memory lead. After doing this switch the battery doesn't drain overnight, but of course I loose my station memory etc. on the stereo now. I am thinking about running a positive lead directly from the battery into the stereo to see if this fixes the problem. Does this sound like a good fix?

i had the same problem with my 90 golf. i installed a stereo and the battery would be dead two days later if i didnt drive it. chances are your stereo stays on after your cars ignition is turned off. a real quick fix that i used was to take the stereo back out and install an on/off rocker switch on the either the power wire (red wire) or the yellow wire. i can't quite remember. I'm pretty sure its the yellow wire. you'll know if you put it on the wrong wire if you have to reset your clock everytime you turn on the radio. but ya... taking the faceplate off the indash doesnt turn off the stereo, it just drains your battery. let me know if this helps or email me at bsoutherlandphd@yahoo.com for more info.
