New Zephyr

Why does the new Lincoln Zephyr have front wheel drive? Doesn't Lincoln know that the transaxle is the root of all evil in the universe. Lincolns are wonderful cars because they are the last of the true American rear wheel drive sedans. I hope the FWD Zephyr doesn't stain that reputation.

I agree.
Its been 60 years since the Lincoln Zephyr meant anything to anyone.
A zephyr is more recently a bad Mercury 25 years past.
Its time for a Lincoln Mk X.

What Edmunds.com Says: This car needs a new name and a more powerful engine if it expects to make any impression in the ultracompetitive entry-level luxury sport sedan segment.
What We Know: Designed to compete in the entry-level luxury sedan market against the likes of BMW's 3 Series and the Infiniti G35, the Zephyr will be Lincoln's smallest and sportiest sedan when it goes on sale late next year. Given the segment's much younger demographics, Lincoln figured it needed a fresh, new look that wouldn't get dragged down with the baggage of its ancestors. Its wide stance, rakish lines and oversized wheels and tires are a big departure from most Lincoln sedans but the Zephyr still wears a few signature design cues like a waterfall grille and some strategically placed Lincoln stars. The Zephyr also departs from Lincoln tradition with a powertrain that consists of front-wheel drive, a six-speed automatic transmission and a 3.0-liter V6. The fully independent suspension will be tuned to provide plenty of Lincoln luxury while at the same time keeping the Zephyr nimble enough to back up its sporty looks. An all-wheel-drive model will be added to the lineup shortly after the initial sedan's debut. Its bright interior blends satin chrome, leather and wood to create an upscale atmosphere that's a little more expressive than most sedans in the segment. The wide, symmetrical dashboard recalls Lincolns of the past but the unmistakable waterfall center stack and THX sound system are modern touches that you won't find in any Town Car.

Dude, your quote from HotRodLincoln was posted in September of 2004. The STS wasnt even out for 4 months after that, not to mention the STS-V. If anything, you should stop pitching the STS-V, when you could have posted about the CTS. That was out in September of 04.

what would you guys think of the car if a supercharger option was released with the car? I know the FWD is a downer for alot of you lincoln verterans but i dont think it was cost effective for the new platform. I think if it was supercharged it would be a nice car. I would check out lincoln's website for pictures of the production car (which does look different than the beautiful concept).
