I'm planning on doing my own oil changes on my '04 Passat 1.8T. However, after getting under the vehicle, I can't seem to locate the oil drain plug (or oil pan for that matter) :banghead: .
I asked a VW service tech and he said not to mistake the tranny fluid plug and only indicated that the oil drain plug is at the back and to the side of the oil pan.
Can anyone describe in detail where it is, and/or provide a photo showing the location?
Thanks.

You'll need to get under the car and remove the belly pan. Once you remove the belly pan, you should see the oil drain plug - its 17mm if IIRC. It does sit on the side of the pan and not directly below the pan btw.
You might want to look into an oil extractor as its possible to access the filter from the top. This means you can use the extractor to drain the oil and eliminate having to get under the car and remove the belly pan each time. You can find an extractor for as little as $50 so it will pay for itself in no time.
