well i got it a while back it was great. till the tranny sprung a leak in west virginia. so i limped up to pittsburgh pa adding fluid as needed. in my small home town i went to get a new pan gasket and filter to fix the leak. got them and they were wrong so i took the pan to match the new gasket. luckily the oldman at the counter had a clue about what he was doing and had a chart. it matched up to a 92 taruas trans. cool got the gasket gave it some mercon V and rolled back to norfolk va. now every time i take it on a long trip it blows that gasket. What gives? this fluid isn't cheap and done this 3 times now!! any ideas would be great.

Are you sure it's the right gasket? I believe you should have a reusable rubber gasket for the pan and the bolts should be torqued to 8-11 foot pounds (criss-crossed order).

that is what was there to begin with, but it was so brittle you could grab one side and it would stand straight out.so i put in a cork one. it blew next trip. so i permatexed it. lasted alittle longer then blew, this time i just added some C D 2 leak stop and seal reconditioner and it is ok so far made it round trip! But i feel this is just buying time. any ideas?

Just a guess, but maybe a plugged breather causing the transaxle to build excessive pressure during a long/hot/hi speed hywy run. The pan gasket should never blow out like that. IIRC- the stock pan gasket is black rubber with metal grommets at each bolt hole.

Could it be that the transmiision is (has been) over-filled? This could also cause excessive pressure on long hauls.

i doubt is was over filled. but i cazn keep an eye on it. where is the breather located? or what does it look like.

I havent had a chance to really poke around on my 2001 AX4N, but there is usually a tube/hose/hole on the top of the transaxle for breathing purposes.
