Loud clicking during a/c !!!!

hi there,

instead of splurging on a new car, i decided i'm going to pimp out my 95 blue aspire....

but i would REALLY be happy if i can somehow get rid of that darn loud clicking sound when the a/c is on, and the car is in idle.....

when i hit the gas, the sound disappears...

so....is it the compressor?

i know that in reviews, this is a common problem....i don't know if it's something that will ever affect its performance....but the sound is almost embarrassing at a red light...

PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT TO DO! lol

thank you!

ps- also if you know of any sites with really good info about Aspire parts...it would be greatly appreciated =)

Well there seems to be trend, my 97 is doing it too, its definitly in the compressor whatever it is, the previous owner said it has been doing it a long time and hasn't affected the AC at all, it cools great. If I was worried about being embarrased I wouldn't be driving one anyway. :grinyes:

i have a 96 and mine does it too. It is embarassing to hear it. have you found the answer as to why it clicks yet?

As long as it keeps working I don't care, only way to fix is get the compressor replaced.

Hi, The reason it makes the clicking sound from the compressor at an idle is because that poor little engine doesen't make enough horsepower at a idle to turn the compressor efficiently at an idle, that's why the sound dissapears above idle...I think you are going to have to live with it if you want to stay cool,,,,,See Ya, Clay..

You're kidding right? My engine is turning about 1000 rpms with the AC on and compressor running, how much HP do you think it takes?
That poor little engine Ok, I didn't buy this car to run races, I wish people would STFU about it, it gets 42 on the Hwy and givin the HP to weight ratio, it isn't as extemely slow as everyone makes it out to be. That "poor" little engine in that car can make it on the freeway faster than some SUVs.

The clicking is the compressor clutch coming on and off. The reason I know this is because my 90 CV does it. If you hear the clicking more frequently then you are low on Air conditioner coolant.

No, its not that, its not rapid cylcling because of low refrigerant, this clicking is much higher in frequency, like raking a comb on the edge of a table. And from what I gather it doesn't hurt anything, as long as mine cools I ain't touching it. :grinno:
