Changing Spark Plugs and Fuel Filter

I have 2 questions.

I have an 89 Century Limited 3.3 EFI. I ant to change the spark plugs, but I was looking and there seems to be some type of silver boot or hose around it. Is there a major purpose for this. How would I remove it or is it possible to work around it to get to the plugs. I plan on changing the wires so would I need to transfer to the new wires. I think its just thin plastic but I want to be sure.

Second, I want to change the fuel filter, is it located inline with the fuel pump.

They're metal, to keep heat away from the plug wires. Use some channel-locks to get the wires off if you cant get a good grip. Fuel filter should be in front of one of the rear wheels.

Ok thanks, is it safe to remove them and not put the back? Also, for plugs, would Bosch Platinum2's be a good chioce since Platinum4's are so high.

I'd leave them there, but if it's too much of a hassle, remove them. However, the plugs may foul more quickly due to more heat generated.

I'd use only Delco plugs, bosch plugs are designed as generic plugs, whereas Delco ones are specifically designed for your engine.
