mothballs for performance

so i was watchin mythbusters the other day... i guess a myth out there is that if you throw a couple moth balls in ur gas tank it will improve performance...higher the octane i guess. anyway, the two guys did it and it sounded like it actually worked, the engine was roarin. what do you guys think?

i saw that episode, in the end they destroyed that engine, although they did try like eight different myths on it, most of them bad...

balls to keep moths away...like if ur puttin clothes away in a box...u put em in there to keep moths from eating the clothes. i think only old people do it tho cause they smell like crap.

Its actually a very common form of vandalism.. DO NOT DO IT! the chemical in the mothball will burn through your engine making it run VERYU good.. For a little while.. Then.. Bye bye engine!

Thats actually a very old street racing trick, but you didnt stick them in the gas tank. You soak the balls in gas, and before you go racing (this is old school carb engines) flip the breather upside down and put the gas soaked mothballs inside. Dont ask me how it works, but I do know it did SOMETHING, and i know my dad use to do it back in his sreet racing days. Once again I say in the breather, NOT in the gas tank and I have no idea how it worked, only that it was done.

Yeah, exactly what Rob said, they did this during the street racing days. Both of my parents were into the Woodward street races at its peak. This is when people would do ANYTHING to go quicker (i.e. mothballs, driving 30 miles on slicks to get to the race, packing coolers full of ice to put on their intakes between runs), basically, anything possible to beat the guy with the new Hemi thats talking shit.

thats freakin awsome. i think im gonna take it back to the good old days...
