if your talking about the sony xplod subs which im sure you are ive heard those and 2 12" american pro chromes and i would have to say to the 2 american pro's sounded better and there much cheaper they run about $90-$100 for 2. i mean there not the best subs on the market but after hearing 2 12 xplod subs and 2 12 american pros i would have to say the american pros were better

Stay away from sony. Check out adire audio's shiva. They sell for 125 a piece but on www.visionaryaudio.com they are having a sell for 115 each shipped. Leaves 170 for an amp. Since your on a tight budget I'd go with a profile ca 600m. It's about 90 bucks shipped on ebay. I've had nothing but good experiences with this amp. I'm sure some one else will give a few other reccomendations. As far as a box I'd build it on your own they're really easy to make and someone on here can help you with the design.

you can get any of these JL Audio subs from authorized dealers
10W0's for about $150
10W3's for about $250
10W6's for about $300
10W7's for about $500
or, you can easily get any of them for about half price off the net.
I would recommend (2)10W6's (versions 1 or 2), and a JL500/1 amp.
The amp goes for about $400-$500 brand new, and half price on the net.
You can get this setup online and spend within your budget, and you'll end
up with a system that quakes way better than anything else in that range.

it's enough power, but it's still a corny combo

it's enough power, but it's still a corny combo
why?
and no that amp won't work well. It's enough power but at the wrong impedance
well, I take that back. It would be enough power, but you'd be wasting half of the amp's potential. You need a 600x1 @ 2ohm amp, NOT a 2ch amp

you will only be getting 400 watts because you'll need to run it in two channel mode at 4 ohms becuase of the dual 4 ohm voice coils, it doesn't appear stable at 2 ohms in bridged mode, get a sub with dual 2 ohms vioce coils, or dual 8 ohms voice coils and you will be able to get 4 ohms in bridged mode. the tempest is 150$, and the rms is 750, buts that only thermal, so if its a sealed box with 800 watts it can probly take it as long as you aren't stupid about it, and it will rape the mtx 8000

You have a small budget, which means you shouldnt expect 2 subs. Dont buy an 8000 if youre only going to have one, I had 2 and liked it but I also had a 1501D amp which gave me 550 to each. Get a single 15" Type-R or any of the other ones they recommended.

I would DEFINATELY stay away from MTX. IMO they sound like junk and aren't very loud. A tempest from adire audio would be your best bet on a single sub. I would also reccomend using a ported enclosure. It will get a lot louder and with a low tuning still have very good sound quality. Kicker amps aren't bad but get one that will give you its maximum power at 4 ohms if your only getting one sub. But seriously stay away from MTX. Tempests are 150 shipped from www.visionaryaudio.com

MTX is not bad, sounds decent gets really loud, especially the 9500 series

Haven't heard the 9500 but there's better for the price. I hav heard the 8000's, 6000;s, and some old road thunders and didn't like any of them at all.

i thought about the 9500's when i re-did my system. powered right...they're one of the few single sub setups that can run wit me...

Well if your looking for loud just geta kicker solo l5. I went to car audio place. Got 1 and had a custom box they hbuit for 100$. It really out did my old 2 sub setups. I alost gained trunk room. I know you guys might disagree, but BOSS amps arn't all that bad. I have had alpine mono a JBL mono and now own a BOSS mono amp, jbl and boss are same power. The boss is better, if you check out sounddomain they have all kinds or subs and amps. Build your own box for like 30 bucks, cheap and easy if you make a sealed box. Get like a 15 Alpine R like MS said, build a big sealed box and get some small mono amp for it. 1 more tip, Buy a sub from a store, usually warranties are easier. You dont always expect to blow a sub

I remember BOSS. had one back in college. my co-workers in the restaurant that I worked in back then would tell me how the whole store would rattle whenever I showed up for work
