I've heard about a sensor that is located on the front part of your car that monitors your speed and sends a beam to see how far away you are from the car ahead of you. If you're too close it is supposed to beep. I have no clue as to whether or not it has been released.

It's called pay a-fucking-ttention while you're driving. Your brain also works good to let you know if you're following too close.

seriously if you cant judge a safe driving distance then you shouldnt be driving period. just use some common sense.

Here's what you do to maintain a safe following distance of a car in front of you. Watch and see when the car ahead of you passes an object along the side of the road... count how many seconds it takes you to pass it after they have passed it... if you are within 2 seconds or less, then you are driving too closely. A safe following distance is 2 or greater, preferably 3 seconds.

if you can tell what the brand is on the cell phone they are talking on, you are driving TOO CLOSE.

there are adaptive cruise controls that use infra-red to maintain a set distance from the car ahead, basically slowing/accelerating with the car ahead. great for large caravans, or long trips behind trucks. however, cruise control is designed to make it easier to maintain speed on long trips, NOT to replace the driver.

anything that would just beep would be a complete waste, because if you aren't paying attention anyway, what makes you think you'll pay attention when the device goes off?

where the hell did u get your license, a cheerios box??? when i took drivers ed, like 5 years ago they were all up on my butthole about tailgaiting and ish. i do know mercedes is making a new car that has cruise control that sends a radar signal out and tracks the speed of the car ahead of you and adjusts your car's speed accordingly. so now, if you can't pay that much attention to realize how far back you should be then go out and spend the 75 grand or however much this car is gonna be and drive with cruise control everywhere.

When I read the subject line of this post I thought maybe it was an alarm that beeped at the people behind you (the ones tailing you). As I read on I felt as if I wasted time in my life. Everyone else is right who is saying just pay attention. My problem is for the people who are even paying attention and still tail people. Its not cool and its not safe! I get tailed somtime and one guy actually came up to me at a light to yell at me for slowing down to the speed limit (he was tailing me and I was going 5 over), he told me to be careful then I pointed out the fact that I wasnt going to tail the person in front of me because if he slammed on his breaks I could end up in hitting him. Plus I slowed down because you really dont need to tail someone on a street lined with houses who is already going over the speed limit in traffic. Anyway pay attention and dont tail people use your head!

i find it quite hilarious and it tickled my ribs that you said it's a waste of your time when you read on in the thread and yet you took the time to write up a nice lengthy paragraph. lol
