More People Smoking?

This is what I noticed in my area....Not to offend any peoples: But, I have noticed lately that a lot more people smoke. Especially the younger ones and mostly women. But, I noticed that my friends with their car groups and other kids in car clubs, seem to smoke. I don't know if they were turned on by the whole image of someone or something, but I do know that more of them smoke because I knew them before they got into that whole 'street racing' scenario.
Now, being a 'people watcher', I notice these things and it just seems like they are complimenting this action with an attitude that you are supposed to have about being confident and the risk of death that comes with racing...or supposedly comes with.
But who really knows...like I said, this is in my area. I don't know about everyone elses areas. And if you are one of these above said people, I have no intention of offending you. I just question these things.

you just try it, it gives you a buzz, you start puffing on others cigs more and more, then smoke your own, then your addicted. heppened to almost all my friends, some say they arent addicted, but they still bum em if they dont have em and throw out 5 bucks for a pack or what it costs now, I quit after a couple months before I got really addicted, but I dont know anyone else that lucky. I notice that ALOT of people are smoking now too, probably just cuz we are getting older so thats more lifetime to try a cig and get hooked, but like 9/10 kids I know smoke. not many of them are "streetracers" though. I only got about 10 buddies who are actually interested in building/racing cars and only a couple of them smoke.

i know heeps of ppl who smoke..... i wonder why they do it... my famili was never rich so i think about where that $3000 + could have gone to.... (thats ur average pack a day smoker, cheap deck of cigs $10, australian that is)

I was thinking of taking up smoking, then quitting so I could save money. :)

I used to smoke, but after a couple months realized how much of my weed money it was taking. Then after about a year of weed, realized how much gas & g/f money THAT was takin, so quit that too. Been better off ever since. Both make me sick though, to go near 'em.

to the ones who don't feel the need for this topic, you don't even need to dignify yourselves with responses. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that its useless or pointless.

And in response to 94tegRs, I understand that. I have 2 major groups of friends: The racers and the clubbers as you know what they do. I hang out with the racers and more than half smoke. I hang out with the clubbers and some of them smoke. So, regardless of the car situation everyone smokes. I just noticed that more and more of these kids in high school apparently just did it for some reasons similar to the ones you said. Also, I did try it a few times, when I was drunk. I started to feel a craving for them and then I stopped. I was sick for almost 2 months with constant coughing right after. In fact I just got over it a couple weeks ago. But yeah, I get what ur sayin. I think it's just a matter of time that we notice more.

when I smoked though I never bought a pack morew than twice, always bummed them. now that I dont smoke though I HATE to be around it, I cant stand it, not cuz I crave but its so nasty. and it never took my weed money because back when I did smoke that I was in the position to where I ended up with a lot of personal and still ahead if you know whayt I mean. but Ive been out of both for over a year.

Anyways, if you look at all of the laws being passed, yes, smoking is down...in places like bars and resaurants. Why? Because they are banning smoking inside those places. Also, they have raised the tax on cigarettes which caused a hike in the price per pack. And that is supposed to effect smokers in some way I don't understand because they'll just get them from places that sell them cheaper in other states. There's no way you can check every single person in this country and ask them if they smoke. A survey can't even do that if you even sent it to everyone in this country because people either don't want to send it in or they don't want to admit to smoking.

Im in an Anti Smoking Group, and getttin paid being in in. We stopped lots Tobacco Smoking areas in Minnesota. I dont smoke, but getting paid to make people stop smoking is cool

i've never smoked but a decent number of my friends do. i have noticed that most of em are pretty much chain smokers at partys. being around them makes me feel like i am smoking...nasty shit.

only time i'm smoking is when i turn 18...big ass cigar :iceslolan

I've had a cigar, it tasted like a flavoured burnt cookie.

When you're inhaling, and acutally smoking it has a OK taste to it. But when you're done, 5 minutes later you are wishing you bought extra-strenght mouth disinfecant Listerine. :D

Of course you can check. All tobacco that enters the country has to pass through the governments hands. And YES tobacco sales are down.

I do not see how it is down, I know absolutely nobody quitting right now and I always see new people smoking. and everyone I knows just smokes outside beforre they go into the restaurant or bar, then walks out later to smoke.

that doesnt stop people from smoking, just stops me from getting pissed off cuz I gotta smell that shit while I am trying to eat.

and how much tobacco enters the country opr whatever doesnt tell how many people smoke, everyone smokes different amounts, some weeks people are trying to quit but get to it the next week cuz they couldnt quit. they can get a estimated number of usage, not how many people though. wel,they can estimate it but IM sure they are kinda far off seeing how big this damn country is.
