The 3000 GT has NO chance against the Evo. You said it was AWD, well, so is the Evo. The Evo is the fastest Mitsubishi made.

i got this stuff from edmunds 3000gt 0-60 5.4 quarter mile 14.00 evo 0-60 5.3 quarter mile 13.8 now those numbes are very close so it looks like to me a vr4 could run with the evo vIII

Thats COMPLETLY wrong. The Evo 8 does a very low 13 in the quarter mile. 0-60 Mitsubishi claimed 4.6, Car And Driver got 5.0, and some magazines got a high 4. The Evo is the best car for the money (sports wise). Like I said, the Evo will spank the 3000GT.

EVO faster yes but not by much. And the EVO is not the best car for the money. You can get a VR4 for under 20k even under 15k, with the cash you would save you could mod the VR4 to kill even modded EVOs. And dont forget the VR4 is built on its own frame designed to be a sports car. Unlike the EVO who's frame is based on an economy car. True the EVO's frame is beffed up but still you cant make a donkey a horse. So in the end the VR4 should always have the upper hand. Thats just the advantage of having a frame built for a purpose.

Modding a VR4 is VERY expensive, 2 turbos, 2 I/C's....FEW folks have sucessfully made really fast VR4's over the years.
The VR4 has about 450 pounds more, which effectivly negates it's additional HP. In the 1/4 it would be very close, a drivers race. Out on the highway the late model VR4 with a top speed of 160 VS EVO 157 would be again close. Be interesting to see at what speeds each would pull on the other.

The VR4 is very hard to mod, and there is few parts out for it. So, maken it faster than the Evo is hard. And dont froget its heavy. The Evo isnt based off the lancer, its the other way around, and the Evo does handle better stock, and always gets good track times. The Evo woulds take it sock VS stock NO problem (unless its a top speed race) and mod VS mod the Evo is much easier and cheaper to mod. Oh and you can froget the price of the VR4 when it FIRST came out. It was expensive and wasnt worth the money, which is why its not made anymore. I would take the Evo.

The difference between the two cars is very great. one is a four door and the other is a 2+2 sport-coupe. Even though the 3000gt is heavier then the evo. I think it would be faster off the line then the Evo. Lets get one thing straight, the evo has a Mono-turbo 4G63 4 cylinder and the 3000gt vr4 has a Twin-turbo 6 cylinder. the power of the evo is great but its still a 4 cylinder, thus it will always lack the low-end torque the higher cylinder cars. The 3000gt has more torque than the evo, but the evo is lighter..........Kind of a give a little, take a little situation right? Not really Because the 3000gt has something the Evo does not. The Getrag tranny. probably one of the best trannys I've ever driven. Unfortunately only the 95-99 had them in the US. But then again this is my opinion. The 3000gt is quicker of the line but the evo might catch it it a quarter mile. BIG MIGHT!!!!!!

My friend had a 93 vr-4 and it was nice and hes done some mods to it. borla exhaust, boost controller, down pipe, hks bov and that thing made quite big differece. A 300GTVR4 would get killed stock for stock in the 1/4 mile. The fastest ones were only mid 13's or slower. An Evo can cut low 13's.

Oh damn i used to live like an hour and half away from there! Yeh theres this shop i used to go to called Sound Performance and the guy that works told me some guy ran 10s. He didn't tell me who though.

in the 1/4 mile the evo-8 has the edge. many people i know have run them at a average time of 13.4
the clutch can sometime's be a problem fro the evo-8 but beside's that yeah in the 1320 the evo-8 has the edge.
99 vr4 are known to consistantly hit 13.5 and 13.4. it has been ran at lower times than that but thats its average. so the two are actaully very close but the edge goes to the evo-8.
as far as top speed or highway racing. the evo-8 has no chance. the vr4 gears are too long and in the 3kgt world there have been more than 5 people who have got to 170mph stock.
i've personally raced a evo-8 on the highway just the other day actually, and damn near ate the thing alive. but i've seen those things move at low speeds and...... i wouldn't call it fast, id say it was quick. maybe the quickest stock car i've ever seen move. i've raced both sti and evo-8. and both are monsters at low speeds but up top, they don't stand a chance against a 99vr4

It depends on what evo you use to race a vr4 cause the US models top out at 157 but the JDM EVO MR tops out over 170 stock. so to race a vr4 on highway with a JDM Evo it would be a close one for sure

little do you know how much gearing matters. our 3rd gear goes to 120mph 4th gear goes well over 150. our gearing is what eats those cars up mostly. and its there gearing that beats us in the 1320.

i think the only thing that matters is stock vs stock cause when you start moding it does'nt matter whoever has the most money will win.look at sport compact car lancer putting down 0-60 2.9sec!!!!!! august 2003, so tell me money is a factor.

stock vs. stock the evo would beat out the 3000gt..its nearly 450 lbs lighter and just look at magazines the evo is proven to go 0-60 in the high 4s-low5s whereas the 3000gt will run mid to high 5s..mainly because of the heavier wieght disadvantage and in the quarter the evo will get a great launch and pull to mid to low 13s where as the 300gt pulls mid to high 13s...of course the driver is an importnant factor also...and if you wanna talk about road racing then the evo hands the 3000gt its ass

I think that the 3000gt vr4 is a quite a bit heaver than the evo more than 540. I think that it weighs somewhere 4000 plus and if you have the hard top convertable its like 4400 or more. The evo weighs less than the 2g eclipse awd. My car is around 3300 lbs there is no way that these two cars would be close the have almost the same hp and almost a 1000 pounds difference

10.75 is the quickets 3kgt i've seen PM if u want the vid. Why have the this debate both cars are great. Saw a site the other day sombody was debating throwing the VR4 engine into a evo. Same hp? 320for 3kgt 271 for evo. The power to weight ratio for the 3kgt is .082 the evo .082 so speaking from that angle these to are dead even. So really it comes down to the gearing and if your at the strip or highway.

sorry but there is no comparison, the evo might be faster in the 1/4 but the 3000gt vr4 is just such a better car. Looks ten times better than that economy four door car. very true what the other guy said a donkey will never be able to be a horse lmao. The evo is a cool car but the best mitsu ever was the GTO MR.
