air intake - cold air?

what does cold air do? it helps with the performance? so hot air si bad and cold air is good? :icon16: :naughty:
How do you make it cold air and shove it in yo air intake? Put a air conditioner in there or somethin'... :icon16: :uhoh:

Cold air combusts better than warmer air. That helps it make more power.
You can make the intake charge cooler by putting the air source(filter) closer to the air outside of the car. Cold air intakes do this, often by placing the filter close to the fender liner away from the hot engine.

Cold water. :evillol:
Don't forget to port and polish your cylinder head with sand. You'll get a 30hp gain from it. :icon16:

koool.... so cold air does help. No wonder my car seems to lose a little bit of performance when the car is runnin hot. Always run better when the car is just started.

hey i went to look at my thang and the hose outta the filter housing is already mounted right in the fender side. See the pic.. is that what you meant? or.. :uhoh: :iceslolan

It seems the area around the hose opening is very stuffed.. not much area to breath air in. Is there a better way to bring in the air? Mabye run some hose to let more air in? :banghead:

The filter itself is still in the engine bay(the big box contains the filter), and the stock intake piping looks like it could be a bit restrictive.
An aftermarket intake can do a few different things to help:
1. Use a cone filter element still placed in the engine bay. A short pipe connects the filter to the engine.
2. Method 1, but add a heat shield to keep hot air away from the filter.
3. Method 1, but add a pipe in the front bumper to bring cooler air to the filter. There probably aren't any aftermarket setups for this. You'd need to do this on your own.
4. A longer pipe that places the filter down into the fender to receive cooler air.

would that extended piping(for optimal, cool air flow) would work with the regular type air filter element? Mine as you can see it's the regular air box, but has K&N filter in it. Would this still be better than right now? yeah I would like to get a cone-type k&n filter or the like in the future... but right now Im spending money on the clutch and flywheel. :D

It could, but the aftermarket doesn't have anything like that as far as I know. You'd have to build it yourself. Some plastic drain piping would work.

awwwww... that's gonna be challenging. I have no idea how I'm gonna start off... gotta do some thinking here... and maybe shop at home depot or lowes or something.... :iceslolan

Go to your local car parts store and find out if they have any flexible tubing. Then put a flexible pipe from the existing tube and run it down behind the front bumper.
The reason cold air is important is it is denser than hot air. Pushing cold air into your filter means that the engine managment computer will then give more petrol to keep the mixture right. More air and more petrol means more power.
If you make up your own intake do NOT use pvc piping - it gets hot in the engine bay and gives off toxic fumes(gases).
