I'm looking to get a mono amp, and 1 15in sub. I have a small trunk space, but the 15 w/box would fit good.. Comparing this to say 2 10's-which i could hardly fit.

actually one 15 will put out a ton of bass, have you had time to shop around for subs,? if so what are you looking at and what is your price range?

Get a nine.1 from www.edesignaudio.com (http://www.edesignaudio.com/) (hurry presale is pretty much over) and a 15" SX from www.reaudio.com (http://www.reaudio.com/) There are plenty of 15s, but no amps that good for that price.

possibly this http://www.genuinecanadianaudio.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23_27&products_id=50

but you have to know how to set your gains well

actually you can get great stuff for 500$ i don't know wtf you are talkin about, one tempest, and an amp to give it 700 watts will be a phenominal system, and thats prolly under 400$

Hey thanks alot everyone for the suggestions. BTW, i don't need trunk rattling civic bass, just some good thumb so i can run the speakers off the HU, and lower all the bass on it, letting the mono and sub take it. Thats what i'm gonna do, just get a decent mono amp to power a decent big sub. As far as getting the speakers amped-yeah i know it is better, but i'm happy with what it's giving me now. Plus, i rarely drive with the windows open, so i really don't need loud loud sound. Just to enough to render me deaf, not other cars :-)

you do realize though that when you take away all the bass in the EQ, you're taking this away from everything, speakers and sub. If you turn it all the way down your sub won't be playing anything, and you'd basically just render it useless.

Wait a minute though, don't mono amps have an adjustable setting to increase only the sub bass? Basically the mono amp will recieve the signal from the hu, then i'd be able to turn up like a bass boost, or control that would let the sub play bass? Sorry man, i'm still learning about all this shi-stuff.

if all you want to do is extend your low range a little deeper and fuller then it's hard to go wrong unless you go to pep boys or sears

some are designed to play only certain bass freq.
some have crossovers (fixed and variable) to choose certain freq.
and then some have eq's or bass boost. the eq is better because you can choose the freq. the bandwidth and how much boost (on higher end stuff)

Yes you could crank the gain to counteract the lack of bass coming out of your headunit, but then you're just asking for trouble

JBL 1200.1 for under $300..can anyone question that this is the most quality wattage into 2 ohms you can get for this price?

it's certainly one of them, it does like 1300 watts into 2 and 1 ohm, i'd say that pretty good, but that nine thing from ED also is rated at 1200 and prolly underrated, maybe not as much as the jbl, but it might be a higher quality amp, so its relative...

it was actually tested out at 1400+ watts RMS

the JBL 1200.1

i heard that it was around 100 watts underrated, but 200 watts......do you have a link to that?

i've also seen some tests of the 1200.1 that only put out 1150 watts at 2 ohms so i dunno if some are good and some are not as good or whats goin on.....
