it's a form of rev-matching as you downshift while braking.

basically, as you're braking. You put the clutch in, rotate your right foot slightly while still on the brake and tap the gas to kick the RPM's up. Then quickly downshift to whatever gear you need, let the clutch out.

If done quickly and correctly, you'll come to a stop faster... smoother and use less braking power thus saving your brakes from extra wear and tear. Plus they won't over heat as fast when you're in a canyon road or something similar.

It's not hard, just takes practice.

lol i usually dont rev match when im slowin down usin the engine, i just let it bog me to a stop lol

but for this method... basically you put your "toe" on the brake, and your "heel" on the gas, and...wait wouldnt it be easier just to downshift normally, w/ rev matching, and brake from there once revs get down to 1k or so?

I think Heel and toe is for exiting corners faster because when you down shift to the right gear you don't need to punch the revs up from idle.

It's good to match your rev's while braking if you're downshifting. It's better for your transmission's syncro's and clutch.

I do it cause, my tranny's syncros are just about shot.

And, yes... it's a good technique for racing on a road coarse in general. It keeps the RPM's up in the power band rather than letting them fall out of the power band.

I find heel and toe hard in some cars, I end up using the side of my foot to pull it off, but it doesn't feel smooth to me yet. It definatly is a technique worth learning though.
