Humming noise at 60mph??? ANNOYING!!

Hey guys,

The best way I can explain this is that my car while going at 60mph makes a loud "humming" noise. Kinda reminds like the sound you hear from the tires of a Monster truck. Only when I get up to around 60mph though? Do you think it could be the CV joints going bad? Let me know....

Doubt it - aging CV joints in my experience are silent except when making a tight turn.

Can you have an accomplice crawl around the car while you are driving (and hang out of the window too) to try and pinpoint the location?

I guess it might be bearings. The other thought is a wind noise, but unless you've changed something on the outside (or unless a piece is falling off and you don't know it :)) that's unlikely.

$100 says its a wheel bearing. Mine did that too, only on the highway, but then after a few more weeks it started at much slower speeds.

Yep Definitly Sounds Like A Wheel Bearing. Mine Did This Too, And It Was The Bearing.

OH great! Any of you guys try replacing it yourself? How much of a bitch was it? Even if you get the hub off, can you replace the bearings yourself on these cars??

they arent hard to do, but unless you have access to a hydralic press you wont be able to press the wheel bearing back together...try a hanes manual....

So what's my best bet? Take the hub assembly off and then take it to a shop to have one pressed on? I have a Haynes, but I'm at work right now. I only took a quick look at it before I came in and I noticed that you have to seperate the lower control arm etc, etc. Let me know...

Perhaps you should just shot the car given your asinime reason to post a photo of weapons.

Perhaps you should mind your own business and keep your comments to yourself! Nobody asked you if you like my signature.... or maybe you should learn to appreciate or peoples interest, and the fact that these "weapons" aren't something you can buy at Wal-mart... they were built by me... another hobby... something I'm proud of! Oh and by the way..

A "weapon" is a tool to damage life or property, and as a result, also to threaten and defend. When weapons are used skillfully, they are used according to doctrines that maximize their desirable effects, while minimizing collateral damage.

So with that being considered, don't post your car either... because I can bet that my guns killed less people then rejects driving automobiles this year so far!

awww...did i hurt your wittle fewings :( awww..

you sound like a card carrying NRA member or some loser who belongs to one of those groups that like to think they are more supreme and above the law.... you are a loser, plain and simple. There's no such thing as a hobby out of automatic weapons.

hey wassup homie dont even trip off tha hater i know what you mean about those guns they are tight. he must be a looser to have the time to post that stupid ass reply. check your tires they may be worn due to negative camber, which might cause your noise, otherwise it definitely is your bearings. ps you have a phat accord i wish my 94 looked as decent. also you have a nice style but if that grille is gold it has to go. nach

Yeah... stupid ass reply would be pretty much summing it up! Anyway...enough about the moron. You think the camber would all of sudden act up even though the car has been dropped for about a year? I did notice the other day, now when I start to take off from a start that I hear like a grinding noise.. not real bad but just for a sec. Guess I'll have to check the hub this weekend. Thanks for the compliments.. appreciate it! Yeah the picture doesn't right... the grill is all chrome, but you're right it looks gold! Now I have to finish with that other guy that has nothing better to do...

There's no such thing as a hobby out of automatic weapons.Phoenixitc... does that stand for Phoenix (I) (T)alk (C)rap?? I have to give it to you... the statement you just made is probably.... no I would have to say definitely the most idiotic thing I have ever seen someone write in a post. Even though this is completely waste of everyones time including mine, but I think it is best for the dumb people in the world to be educated even though it might be an inconvienence to others. So let's examine your statement. "Awww... did I hurt your wittle fewings?"...uh no! You didn't I just wanted to enlighten you on how ignorant you are on the "weapon" subject.. did you annoy me? Well sure.... all stupid people annoy me! So then you carry on to how all of sudden I think I am "above the law" and I carry a NRA card and I am "more supreme" then everyone?? LMAO!!! And then to top it off you call me a "loser"! So once again my little friend let me enlighten you on things you have no idea about whatsoever! First, no I don't belong to the NRA... second I don't think I am above the law not to mention that I have no criminal backround. No guns do not make people feel more "supreme" then others.. and the only thing is this world that could make me a "loser" would be responding to another one of your stupid posts. And to conclude to your dumbness... fully automatic weapons ARE a hobby that requires a Class3 license from the ATF and are held in three events a year which thousands of people attend to watch. But the guns that I have ARE NOT fully automatic.... nor can you buy or build fully automatic weapons without a license. But of course you would assume they are because that's what they show on the Matrix, Terminator, Swat.. and all the other movies you have in your entertainment center. So do yourself and everyone else a favor, before you try and bash people... ESPECIALLY about things you don't know about... get an education first! They're alot more interesting that way! And like I said before... don't bother typing a response. I'm already convinced your an idiot.. so I will let other people bash you down from this point on. So you can either just let it be... or..... well..... type more stupid shit for all of our amusement!

Have a nice day! :screwy:

'I can bet that my guns killed less people then rejects driving automobiles this year so far!'

Interesting point! Anyway, just to add my .02, it is probably the bearing, however it could be something as simple as your tire becoming unbalanced. A weight may have fallen off, this happened to me and my tire started vibrating at an audible volume only between 60-80mph. Another thing...I assume you got your car aligned after dropping it a year ago or whenever. Because lowering it does affect the camber, and if not corrected, it might have only now become noticeably bad after a year of driving on it. If you did get it aligned, then ignore that last idea. But it just seems tire balancing and an alignment are a hell of alot less of a hassle to check than the bearings. Good luck

I have a similar problem, around 50 to 60 I get a humming noise. but when I go faster than 60 it goes away. Sounds alot like wind. Had my bearings checked. Brakes are new. And I had 4 new tires I bought about 3 weeks ago and I still got the got damn sound. Any suggestions?
