205/40/17 : What is the Proper Tire Pressure??

I got Kumho 711HR "205/40/17" tires, what is the correct tire pressure for this please?

most tires tell you on the sidewall.

"Sidewall" psi is for the tire at it's maximum load. look inside your glove box for the rec. tire pressures(29psiF/R i think)

Slightly lower pressure will soften the ride w/ increased corner stability & a slight decrease in gas mileage.

Slightly higher will harden up the ride & increase gas mileage.

Running the front lower than the rear helps any FWD car in handling.

well the problem with that on these particular tires jackassi is that when you run at 29 psi the side wall is practically non existant and you rims get chewed up. by the way I have these same tires on my teg.

The sidewall maximum pressure is 35 psi and I have run them at 28-29, 32, and 35.

35 is very rough ride, 28-29 the slightest little hiccup in the road and the rims get dammaged, right now I keep them all at 32 and it seems to be a somewhat happy medium.


I only recommended looking on the tire to get a general idea, if the tire says 35 then I hope he would not go over that, and have a better idea of where to start.

By the way you mentioned to look in the glovebox? wouldn't that pressure be the old stock tires? will it still apply to new different style tires? I've always assumed that different tires needed different pressures and to go by the manufactureser rating of that particular tire?

I recommend higher pressures incase you hit a pothole - it will at least try to protect your rim better.

I ran around 40psi front and rear in my 17s.

Acually my sidewall says "43 PSI Max" On my old 17s I was told by WheelMax to run at a constant 40 PSI, unless the guy over the phone was wrong. Every time I go to get my Oil changed they lower it to 35 PSI, but I think thats wrong.

Ok, I just called the guy at Wheels Next and he said "36 PSI", but he sounded kinda stoned; so I will go at 37 PSI. :)

Why do you have someone else changing your oil? Do it yourself so they will stop messing with your car.

Well I know half the people that work a valvoline, I live right next to it, so they here my turbo all the time. they know me to. I am watching them as they do it though. I don't just sit down and let them have there way. I just forgot to tell them not to fuck with it. Plus I live at an apartment, its a little hard to lug out the jack and stands ECT. you get the point.
