Brand New eD sub; rattling?

I just got and put my 12k14 in my car (same Pioneer 380Wrms amp) and it sounds like the sub is rattling when it hits, almost like a broken paper-cone type sound.
With the sub came some paperwork that the sub needs to be played relativly easy for about a week or so to break in; so will this go away? or do i have a bad sub to begin with?

take the sub out of the box, there is a "tinsel" lead from the subwoofer to the wiring, it needs to be in an L shape away from the cone, see if it is. If not call up Ben at work. or email him etc... He will cover it and probably send you a new one. How loud are you playing it? if you are pushing it loudly, the sub is likely to be screwed also.

I've got it playing pretty low right now; like it said keep it quiet for the first week or so. I'll have to take it out and look at it when i get home

"tinsel slapping" was a known problem of the old ones, which is one thing they improved on in the v2s

after thinking about it, it sounds like you have a dual voice coil sub and only one voice coil is hooked up.

:-\ i wish it were that easy; its just a single voice coil sub

please check the tinsel lead, and if it is toward the cone, make it angle away from the cone in an L shape, if you have not already

There is no tinsel lead
eD = woven leads
eD = woven leads

on the old Ks, I could have sworn the didn't have woven leads

the original "e" model subs didn't I don't think, but I'm 90% sure every flat cone did

so why did they have a thread about K/A tinsel slapping when I first joined SI.net

They might have been talking about the e-model subs, not the flat cones.
