Can anyone recommend a good place to get a tune up in the West Los Angeles Area? I need to get a tune up for my 2000 Honda Civic EX. If anyone can suggest a good shop that is honest and affordable I would appreciate it.

I dunno about West LA area, but Ultimate Honda/Acura in Arcadia (San Gabriel Valley area) is in independantly owned shop that employs all former Honda techs that know Hondas and Acuras inside out. I hear their service and reputation is excellent!

thanks for the suggestion! If they're not too far away I'll check them out.

Depends on what the tune-up entails. Sure changing oil and spark plugs is simple enough, but checking something such as valve lash/gap isn't exactly basic, that being it's internal. Flaming for someone taking their car to a shop because they feel more comfortable that way isn't going to teach them any better.

Just wondering, do Ultimate Honda/Acura do engine swap and such as well?

No, they are strictly just factory like service. It's operated by several mechanics that formerly used to work for Honda, or that's my understanding.

Also look into Konno Sport Tuning in El Monte if you want swap services. The owner, Andy, used to be a mechanic with Honda for 10 years. He specializes in automatic transmission Hondas as well, which is hard to find a persone that does that. I've had work done at his shop a couple occasions, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

It's all good, and you're right, any mechanic can do the basic stuff.
