Smelly A/C in 99

New possible problem has just occured. Last year the A/C operated normally with no problems. This spring it ran fine with no problem until I turned it off and left the blowers on. Next time using the car there was a very foul smell through the vents.

After running outside air through the system the odor disappeared until I used the A/C once again. Then it was same situation.

Note: No foul smell while the A/C is in operation. Only after shut off.

Is this a problem or normal with this model of car? Is there any other correction than running outside air until odor clears?

Thank you.

With age of an air conditioning system, there is condenstation that will build up inside the vent ducts, which sooner or later starts to mildew. Once this occurs, each time, either when you start the air, or shut it off, it will put out a putrid odor. What you can do is go to your local auto parts retailer, and find the air conditioning cleaner and deodorizer, which is fairly cheap, and works rather well. I've used it once on my Camry, and no stench since.
