i sent my 87 na to the shop to replace the front crank seal. after washing all the old oil out of the engine bay, my mechanic told me there was power steering fluid leeking as well. he clames they are both coming out of the same leak. from my knowledge, this is imposible. how can power steering fluid be coming out of a leak on the crank seal? the power steering is a completlly different system from the oil. im very comfused, but think he just told me wrong. i also need to know if my car would be drivable without power steering, and would it be ok for the car, because i dont have the money to get the power steering replaced along with the crank seal. i really need some help here.

No I'm sure he just told you wrong. Power steering leak is usually a hose either from the resivoir to pump or pump to rack. I wouldn't recommend driving without power steering. Also if it is leaking and you continue to drive it be sure that the pump does not run out of fluid otherwise you may risk damaging the pump and having to spend even more money, than that of just fixing a simple leak.

Best of luck with it.

Mine used to leak like a siv for a while. Just keep adding fluid when it starts groaning and you'll be ok. Don't let it run completely out...I'm not sure, but that can't be good for shit. There's fluid out there with stop leak stuff in it and it really WORKS...mine got MUCH better after using that for a while...just don't expect ONE bottle to work...it takes a few.

Oh yea....find a new mechanic....
