ok,
so, i'm being told that i need a new condensor, plus, because my car is on the AC "old system," i need to convert it to the new system (92 Camry)
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!
plus, i'm being told by my mechanic that he can't guarantee that to fit it for the new system will ensure that, in a few months, it will actually work.
help?

Sounds like BS to me. Even though the Freon12 is getting more and more expensive, there is no reason why someone can't repair a F12 system and refill it, providing a qualified technician does it. I'll bet this mechanic is not certified to work on F12 systems and wants to do the only job he is able to do. Go somewhere else.
