Amp Shuts off then turns on

Hey recently i will turn the volume up on my deck and after a short time of a alot of bass the amp will shut off. after about 5 minutes it will come back on. i jus installed a power cap and replaced the fuse what could be goin wrong

yep, sounds like your amp is thermal cycling (overheating) ....... it could be you have too low of an impedance load and/or playing it too loud too often

so...
(1) turn the gain down goin to the subs and see if your "play time" will last a little longer
(2) check to see your cap isn't oversized - you don't need 1000 if you can benefit from a 500
(3) consider rewiring to 4 ohms if you're wired at 2 right now

ok i tryed turning down the gain and then it barely hits at all. maybe its the power cap??. i have this amp http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1051384109448&skuId=5292881&productCategoryId=cat03087&type=product wired to a 1.5 fahred cap.

just turn down the gain a little bit, not a lot, to see if that helps. i still think its a heat problem, where is the amp mounted?

A lot of people discourage mouting the amp to the sub box for the reason that when the subs hit, the box vibrates, and heavy and prolonged vibration is not good for an amp with sensitive insides. I would get your amp checked out to make sure it is working fine, then I would mount it elsewhere

What impedance are you running those at? Because if those are both 4 ohm subs and you've got 'em wired in parallel mono(the way you would naturally wire them if you didn't know better) You'd be at 2 ohms and therefore lucky your amp isn't broken altogether ;)

Oh, and I don't subscribe to the whole vibration theory. because if your amp is anywhere near your subs it will get a lot of vibration, and any good amp(not pyramid or road gear or jensen...) should be a ble to handle it...

The amp vibrates more from being mounted on the chassis of the car (gravel, bumps, etc) than from being mounted on the sub box. There are a couple downsides to mounting on a box though. Like if you take off your amp you now have holes in your box, or if someone breaks in it makes it nice and easy to steal your whole setup at once.
