other than the obvious ..having a phone with bluetooth, what else do you need to do to "activate' it in the X5...
I did the activate thing in the X5..with the 'telephone' [computer screen menu] ["activate'] then told a blutooth phone to search out etc to find a receiver/another blutooth..and nothing happens..? - either in the car or on the blutooth phone [says it can't find etc].... I even removed the Nokia std cell phone from its cradle under the armrest....am I missing a simple "how to"..
...or is the salesman's babble about "its got blutooth bull !! ie pay more to get more !! cars build date was 10/02...if that helps
compatibility - I'm told that all blutooths should work but only some Sony/Ericson and Seimens allow full usage of the phone's memory via the X5...

Hi David from Aus.
I have gone through all the pain of installing my Bluetooth phone. Sounds like you've worked out the pairing process from the BM side. You'll need to go through the menu options in your phone, find Bluetooth, then select headset and the phone should tell you to activate the pairing partner (BM). If your phone finds the BM pair, it'll ask you for a pass code, once you type into the phone it'll continue the pairing process. If it's successful, three loud beeps will sound. Your then done.
Turn off the ignition and turn on. The phone may need to be jolted, select Bluetooth menu, then headsets and connect. The phone should indicate that you've been successful. Press the telephone button on your radio display and a phone menu should appear. Either select a pre set number of dial and manually dial. To enter the number press the speak icon on the steering wheel of the phone button on the radio display.
The Bluetooth audio is pretty bad thought. I would have prefered a wired option
Good luck
John from Aus.

Thanks John
Since that email we have bought 2 new phones [Motorola V620] that have their own blutooth headsets..but I'd like to use the X5's system, rather than the headset...BUT I can't remember what steps you need to do to the X5 to 'pair' / activate it to the phone, I've checked all our manuals and there's no mention of the steps to activate the X5..I wrote it down originally ..but have since misplaced the note..any assist would be helpful

David,
First thing you need to do is. Hold down the speech button in the centre console for three seconds; ensure that the key is in the fully off position. While holding the button down, switch the ignition key to position 1. After another 3 seconds release the speech button. Pairing will now appear.
Select Bluetooth on you phone, then headsets and discover. The phone will hopefully respond with BMW #### and ask you for the passcode.
There should be a card in your owner’s manual for the Bluetooth kit. There will be a four digit code that you'll need to key in. If you've lost the code you'll need to get it from BM.
After you've entered the code, the pairing will continue for several minutes and the radio will chirp three times when complete. Simply turn off the ignition key and turn back on. You may need to set the phone's Bluetooth headset to active for it to work.
Then simply press the phone button and the radio screen will change to the phone functions.
Regards,
John
