Formula Drift or Formula D has been created to provide the highest level of drifting competition in the U.S. This inaugural season will consist of 4 rounds cumulating the crowning of the first-ever U.S. Champion.

Created by Slipstream Global Marketing, the company that brought D1 Grand Prix USA event. Known for setting the precedent and progressive ideas, Slipstream with the partnership of SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) will create a competition rulebook, first of its kind in the World.

We invite you to come out and take part in watching motorsports history at the Reliant Center in Houston, Texas. I can't wait. I went to the Drift Showoff on April 10, and enjoyed it quite a bit. It seems like Formula D will be more drift-intensive, with more sponsored drivers in addition to the locals. On top of that, the Formula D venue is closer, so it's a win-win for me!

Interesting notes:

1. Coming off a huge win a the International Drifting shootout and qualifying 1st in FD ATL, Team Rotora's Ken Gushi seems to have a ton of momentum going into Houston

2. Alex Pfeiffer was recently approached by a few AE loyalists to have him sign copies of the AE car manuals.

3. EA Games', Need For Speed Underground has recently signed as the Title Sponsor of Formula Drift and it was recently announced that NFSU2 will be debuting in the early parts of the 4th quarter. Additionally EA will hold a NSFU contest at each FD event with the winner going along in a drift and drive with one of the Japanese pros.

4. East Coast stand-outs continue to make their presence known. Vaughn Gittin, Eric Jacobs and Ben Schwartz have been almost unstoppable as they advanced to the later rounds in FD ATL. In other East Coast news, Tony Angelo has made the West Coast his permanent residency for the moment. We hear he is rooming with another East Coast transplant, Team Motorex's Chris Forsberg.

5. Rumor has it due to the East Coast's many talented drivers there is an East Coast FD planned for the '05 schedule

6. Pacific Rim is the Official Merchandise company of Formula D. FD apparel is now available on-line at www.ilovedrifting.com or on the Formula website

7. The top 16 drivers at each event will now be introduced "WWE Style" with the sound of their "theme song" playing overhead. Alex Pfeiffer has asked for the Hawaii Five-O theme song while Ernie Fixmer opted for Sponge Bob Square Pants song.

There's also a local guy with an El Camino who did great at the Drift Showoff last month. He was probably the crowd favorite. If Rhys Millen doesn't want to get booed, maybe he should drive one, too!

I hope he shows up next week.
