Hi,

I have been looking to add performance to my 85 supra for some time now and have seen many people swap 7mgte engines into there mk2 supras. I was intending to do a 7m swap but then asked the question of why do I not just go one step further and swap in one of the twin turbo engines? I have heard of people doing so with very minor problems in fitment. The big problem is the wiring of it all. I have seen 1 and 2jz for sale on ebay that come with the wiring harness and ecu but how hard or how much wiring is needed to hook up to all of the wiring inside the car. another problem is that the engines are from Japan and from what I've heard the jap spec supra engines run with smaller injectors and turbos, but that might just be a rumor someone put up.

The major problem is wiring it like you've said. Another problem your gonna probably come across is fabricating your engine bay to fit the motor in it. It can be done with the right amount of money though, good luck :)

Actually there would be no fabrication of the engine bay, it came with a 2.8L and 3.0L I6. Wiring would be the same as a 7mgte swap if you put in a 1jz, same dash harness that plugs into the ECU. Motor mounts would have to be fabricated though, no bolt in for the JZ series. If you decide to swap in a 2jz then good luck, that's a whole different set of problems with tons of fabrication and headaches. I think you'd be happier with the 7m, parts are cheaper, the engine is very reliable once you rebuild it right, and it's almost completely bolt-in, but do whatever makes you happy.

I wouldn't call it minor. Take a look at some of Norbie's posts on celicasupra.com. He has transplanted a 2JZ-GTE into a mk2. The Japanese 2JZ's do have a little less HP than the US ones.
