Porsche GT3 / Honda NR

Hello Everyone,

I have been following the forums for sometime now as a guest but finally I decided to write as well.

I am building two kits at the moment to learn about model car (motorcycle) building. One is the Tamiya GT3 which I think is an easy kit to build which enabled me to focus on painting (and pulling my hair). And the other one is the Honda NR. Here are couple pics I took. These are being built out of box so bare with me... I do not want to run before learning to walk :icon16:

http://www.toughbeard.com/jpg/nr/nr03.jpg

I painted the body of the NR with Boyd Red (which I think is wonderful. It shines before even buffing and sanding and leaves no orange peels)

http://www.toughbeard.com/jpg/gt3/gt301.jpg

The GT3 was painted with tamiya gloss yellow. It has lots of orange peel and while buffing I went all the way down to the primer (that includes gloss coat) So I am going to sand it alittle and use the Boyd Yellow and leave it alone for a week...

Enjoy,

Guiddy

Seriously great paint job! Can't wait to see them done!

Welcome on the bright side of AF!
From what the pics let us see, I completely agree with Guiddy...
Nice to see a gt3! I hope you won't paint the front and back turn lights clear orange!.... (as the real car has light smoked ones instead)

Thanks for letting me know or I would have painted what the booklet said... I need to check the web for some reference I guess.

Thanks for the feed back guys...

I decided to samd down the paint on the gt3 alittle because I didnt liked the end result of the tamiya yellow . So I sprayed 2 coats of Boyd Dark yellow and let the GT3 to dry... Here is how the gt3 looks like now.

The interior is almost finished as well, but it is nothing fancy as I am trying to learn about painting the body... I ll post some pics of the interior as soon as I get my camera back...

Well I have successfully ruined the decals on my NR... :banghead: and if I play with it anymore it will be ruined more, so I have closed it applied the rest of the decals and it is going in the shelf as a reminder of thing not to do.. :nono:

There are some paint flaws as well but I am just going to ignore those an move on as I have 5 models to finish until may 23rd.

What I learned.....

- Manual is not always right.. even if it is made by Tamiya :)
- Paitience
- Carbon decals suck... :grinno:
- use cotton gloves while handling models.
- Motorcycles are not built like Gundams :lol2:

I ll post some pics as soon as I am done with it...

Nice job; I like the second color the porsche has. The first was too bright.

From where I am, I must admit it looks ok, too! :icon16: And however, it's a NR! :smokin:

... where are the rear view mirrors? I miss them a little...

If I remember well there's been a thread about ruined builds, or first kit... Try to find it, and you'll use less " :banghead: " !!!!:lol::lol:

after 5 days of waiting I wet sanded the body and polished it with tamiya compound... I am going to wait for another day so everything settles down.

Then I will either clear coat it or just polish it again and leave it the way it is...

Well I decided that the wing on the back of the car was not what I wanted so built mine from styrene sheet...

Here are some pictures...

After staring at the car for a while I thought something was a miss...

Sponsor decals!!!! So I started fiddling around my decals sheets pile and kit decals, but I realized I have to ruin 6 decal sheets from various kits to get decals and most were not what I wanted. I wanted all black decals... maybe shades..

So I said why not, and custom built my decals... luckily I had a sheet of inkjet decal paper I bought a year ago from germany. so I printed the logos on the paper... Here are 2 photos..

http://www.toughbeard.com/jpg/gt3/dekal1.jpg

this one is a little off color but it shows you whay I printed and the name of the decal on top.

http://www.toughbeard.com/jpg/gt3/dekal2.jpg

Here is a detail shot of a portion of the decal.

once dry (atleast I thought it was) I applied a coat of microsol decal liquid over it. let it to dry again. since it was not all dry some of the decals were ruined but I still have 95% of the sheet so it is acceptable :)

then I tested with one of the ruined decals and it worked great.

Here is what the GT3 looks like at the moment.

well the gt3 project has come to an abrupt stop with me accidentally dripping thinner on the body :eek7: I will leave it alone for a while for the paint to dry and see if it can be repaired... :banghead:

Sorry to hear about that and I hope you get it fixed.. That paint looked so perfect! Anyway if and when you get it fixed tel me that you´re going to paint those wheels black like the wing and the decals, it would look awesome!

Toughbeard

flying finn: The rear wing will be CF actually :)

the wheels I was debating on actually... leave as they are or an anodized look. (dark metalic gray or blackish color)

ywwong: thanks :)

BTW Did you get the paint fixed?

Whatever you'll do, it will look awesome! Hope the thinner didn't damaged your beautifull paint!

(looking at the photo, the chromed wheels seem to be white... I love that, a good racing look!...)

well actually the hood, the nose and the right front quarter is damaged.... I washed it with water as soon as it happened so the damage should be kept to a minimum (I hope) I am just leaving it alone at the moment. It should be fixable...as sson as I am in a better mood I ll fix it ;)

white...hmmm..... now thats an idea....

Hard to believe it has been 4 months :eek7: time really flies by.... Anyways finally back to building... I picked up the Porsche, at least I know the paint is dry by now.

Today I finished the rear wing, glued the headlights on, did the panel lines and built custom 4 point seat belts... I placed the metal GT3 logo to the back of the car where I think it looks better... Interior and exterior decals are done.

What remains... Wheel decals and wheel color (If I change it), windows, and trim painting and the mirrors...

Sorry for the blurry pictures... The galery will have nice ones, I promise...

These are the parts used for the seat belts..

The wing is cf'ed
