I recently baught a 1997 Gmc Sonoma and have been using it here in hawaii for a 1/4 mile street truck to race at our track...However I am constant with times and speeds of 16.5/16.9sec at 79-80mph. Is there away to get faster times and speed without going all out with $$$ My truck has a 4.3L V6 Vortec Thanks

Have you done an intake, exhaust, programming? Other things to try are pullies, tb spacer, or lower temp thermostat. I have never run mine at a 1/4 trackbut havea 1/8 and I am down in the 9.6 to 9.8 range. One of these days I will go run it at a 1/4 track.

I have added a Flowmaster exhaust witch makes it sound nice and i am lookin at adding a K&N air intake and a MSD ignition..I guy i raced and beat (he has a S10 Extreme) had dont $5000 worth of work and i dont want to spend all that on my engine...however if i was to spend that much i have found a supercharger :)

MSD is worht it I have on my truck. To be exact it is MDS 6A. That along with a programmer, which will advance the timing, will make great gains for you. Out of curiousty do you know what gears you have in the rear end? That could help clip some time but would lower your gas milage. PS auto or manual?

I am not talking about the gear ratios in the transmission, but rather in the axel of the truck. For example, I have 3.08 in the back. I think that your truck has 3.42 gears meaning that for every time the driveshaft turns 3.08 times in my truck the wheels turn once. In many racing applications people will put rear main gears in that meet there track needs. A vehicle that races on top end will have a lower gearing and someone racing in the 1/4 mile will have higher gears to deliver as much power to the ground in the shortest amount of time. Anyway when Chevrolet was making the SS S-10 they installed 3.73 in them and they were automoatics as well. I have heard of people going higher, but with the way that s-10 or sonomas are prone to spin the back I would suggest not going to high unless you plan on buying some darg radials. Hell try and borrow a set and I promise that your 60ft time will probably be a whole lot better.
Anyway good luck with the MSD.

dude go to the junk yard and get a 4cyc s-10 rear end it will help out a lot it will take you from the 3.42 to 3.73 or 4.11 you should just get the 4.11 if you dont care about the gas mileage the reand end will bolt right in dont pay no more that 200 buck for it you will like to ET pick up you will get
