bushings

Hi everyone! I have a quick question for all of you. I have a 2001 durango 4x4 that sqeaks in the front. When I took it to the mechanic, he told me that the bushings needed lubing. I think he sprayed some lubricant around them and it stopped the squeaking. That was a couple of days ago. Now the squeak is returning. I am wondering what is the best type of lubricant to use without dismantling the bushings and packing it with grease? Some have told me Tri City is good. Once I get this best lube, how do I go about lubing it. I am truly a novice but do know where the bushings are now. My mechanic told me that would be the best solution but would cost some $$.

Your best bet Is A Lithuim Spary Lube witch sprays like a liquid but dries to a grease. The bushing your talking about must be the sway bar bushings. I would have someone check out the ball joints they seem to go bad pretty quick on these Durangos and make alot of noise when they do.

Shrkarx2-

Thanks for your reply. Do you know where I could find this tye of lube? Do you think an automotive store might carry it or do I have to special order it. also, I just had the left side upper and lower ball joints replaced so I know it is not that. the mechanic said that when he had it up on the rack, he could pull on the sway bar and the squeaking was there. Thanks again.

Ya, any auto parts store or even a good hardware store should have spray lithium grease.

Hopefully that is all it is for you. I have been to the dealership 8 times for front end noise problems. First few times it was the bushings (about every 3k starting at 10k miles). Then it was the ball joints. Had them replaced, still had the noise problems. Decided to go back in and they lubed up the bushings again with no luck, even showed me how to do it myself. Still noisy! Vehicle is going back in tomorrow to have the (rack and pinion SP?) replaced. I now have 40k on the vehicle. The only good thing is I only have to pay $100 for a $1500 job. Terrible first experience with a Dodge. :banghead:
