Pearl white over primer...

Hi everybody! :naughty:

I just bought some light grey Tamiya primer, and I'm planning on doing one of my next models in Tamiya pearl white. Will the White cover the light grey? I've had bad experiences with grey primer and yellow, will the primer show through the white too?

Well, I have done several cars in white, and used grey primer, and it comes out fine, just make sure you do nice even coats of paint or it wont cover properly, but still, your better off using white primer for white paint, it just looks better, grey primer makes everything appear darker.

Thanks bro. My problem is, I want this car to come out perfectly. I have white primer, but the best kind I can get in white doesn't spray nearly as nice as the light grey tamiya...

hey ozzy. well i had the problem with grey over white, just wont cover. i would go to fred meyer or somewere and buy duplicolor white primer, and before you paint, wet sand with some 1000 grit that will make the white primer smooth and let the gloss white stick. but try some duplicolor white primer

OK, I'll opt for the white then...

Do the pearl white over a solid white, white primer is not very nice looking to put the pearl white over, but it'll be nicer than grey primer.

but it's best if you put it over a solid white.

I used TS27 Matt White as a base for TS45 Pearl White with good results. . . Just be sure to build up the coats in light mists

yea the trick with white, is not to spray it heavy but to spary many light coats. i had some bad experince with it!

Ok, so it's white primer, white base coat, then pearl white paint?

well you can do that or
just white primer then white base.

or white primer, white base then pearl.

OR white primer and a white pearl base.

Pearl white need a white base color

I used it for my Bomex Rx07, look really good, but you need an even white base coat.

it don't cover much, but you can try to mix color (like a gold base, or a silver.. lot of option

no real need to make a white base if your white primer is smooth

this 350Z pearl white is only with primer white base.. and no white.. i think it will look more nice if i put a layer or 2 of white rite??

Pearl white is a very hard color to catch on picture.. your show lightly.

if you look closely to the model, you will see green, pink and other flake on it.. overal look make it like a metalic white.. very interesting color. The more coat you put, more the effect will show

I no you said something about the quality of primers...If it is possible to find in your area get Krylon White Primer...It is awsome stuff, best primer I have used, and it goes nice with white paint.

Cool, thanks guys. I already had the white primer, ts-45 and clear coat, i'll have to run out and get the pure white. Might as well play it safe.

if the body is a medium or dark color you SHOULD use gray primer to cover the body good first.. THEN use the white primer to cover the gray.

if you use only white primer you would have to spray on a thick coat and you end up hiding all the details.

Hey Colin, you have an Airbrush dont you? You could try Dupont Variprime. Its a light yellow color. When I paint my hotrod with pearl white Im going to use variprime so I know what area has been painted and what hasnt. Its harder to tell the distinction between pearl, and primer sometimes.

Just my :2cents:

Thanks mike, but i don't use my airbrush. Good suggestion though.

I got a porsche right now and it will be white, and so i bought a can of white primer, and i have just been wet sanding it out to get it smooth and i hope soon in the next few days to lay a white base down
