Drifting mainstream?

I've been on enough forums to see enough threads agreeing/disagreeing with making drifting mainstream. Like it or not, it is happening. There's nothing you can do about it. The only bad thing I see with it is the bad image it puts on us, like street racing and such, just keep it off the street. Anyways, this is just to point out an article I saw on Gran Turismo 4 in GamePro, it had a little Q&A with the makers, and here's a part of it.

"Q: Do you think the inclusion of drifting in GT4 will help that take off in the US?

A: Absolutely, it's essential. The thing that's interesting about drifting is that rally has had a cult following for a while, but it never took off. It's very hard to see. It's like watching a desert off-road race where you stick yourself out in the middle of nowhere and every once in a while a car goes screaming by. The thing that's cool about drifting is that it's actually in a closed stadium. You get to see a car on the ragged edge of control, tons of tire smoke an squealing."

Kind of interesting, seems like this game will actually do some justice. And to start another discussion;

How many of you got into drifting from rally?

I got into it rather strangely. For a while I used to race RC cars on road, and it got kind of boring, such level terrain, driving in circles and stuff. But I didn't want an RC truck, so I started looking into rally cars in RC, and that peaked my interest up into actual rally racing. I thought their powerslides and stuff were cool, and slowly learned about and got into drifting. So there you go.

GT3 drifting is wack... the controls don't do it justice... hopefully GT4 will be better, and have some drift desinged tracks(but not like the ones in NFSU)

Yea NFSU is too easy to drift...I dont like that. Anyone have or played the game Sega GT 2002? In that game theirs no drifting but the cars handle realistically so you can drift. I do it all the time just for fun.

Yeah, I got Sega GT 2002.. They're supposed to have a GT Online now with more cars and Xbox Live compatible, but I haven't seen it yet.

I Love the Trueno in GT2002 though, it handles insanely realistically. Very good game, glad it was free!

One more quote from the article...

"...drift competitions are a sure thing. 'The idea is for players to be evaluated on how artisitic their drifts are on the street.' say Yamauchi. 'We'll probably model them after the D1 competitions,' adds Imasaki, 'and make them look as cool as possible with replays.'"

Sounds awesome :)
