Just wondering what people that visit the off-topic would vote b/c there are a lot of neutral car-experts here. Anyway which car would you rather own?? 1995 Nissan 240sx with the KA24DE engine or the 1995 Pontiac Firebird L36 3800 Series II, 3.8 liter V6. Just something between me and my friend.

I don't know who voted for the v6 firebard, but compared to the 240 its garbage. The 240 has it beat in handling, looks, and potential. Stock vs Stock, I bet the firebird would win in a straight line.

Go for the 240.

plz 240 easily its not even a good question, japanese cars have more reliability, and those two compared, the 240 is better in handling, and it seems like anyone who buys a car like the firebird or the mustang, they kinda act like duesh bags, i dunno why but shit happens.

Ok, first of all, I've said in other forums, that whole Japanese reliability thing is simply an illusion. By rational thought, all major car companies produce roughly the same product for roughly the same money, so don't tell me this brand is some "super-car" lasting for 200K w/ no trouble. That is why they are competing. It is like saying Reboks last longer than Nikes... there is a myriad of other factors that affect the longevity beside brand.
Second, I drive a Camaro, and I'm not a duesh bag... to the contrary, it is the damn import people that act like total fuckin duesh bags! i live on South Shore of Suffolk County NY. Around here, these idiots w/ their civics and integras and shit run around thinking the can smoke LS1s. Ok, like I said, I am a rationalist... let's see, that is the most illogical thing i have ever heard. Sure, you can build one of those to beat it, sure, but 99% of the guys do not have sh*t worth anything, and will never come close to spanking an LS1 as they claim. I mean, come on, who in their right mind could think an ecobox civic could beat a Vette-powered performance car. Even the civics I know w/ type R swaps still have no chance... 195hp vs. 350hp... hmmm. Anyway, just my two sense... But to answer the question, get the 240 (no, i'm not a hypocrite). For two similarly performing cars it does handling better, and I had a v6 camaro, and if you are gonna get a camaro, get it how it was meant to be... v8!!! then do a comparison.

joseph nice non-biased post, not an easy thing to do since you own a Camaro. And it's spelled "douche" not duesh, you douche bags!

Anyways I just made this poll because me and my friend were having a fight over our cars. Also yea those people who don't know shit about cars is annoying, which seem to stem a lot from import owners. This one dude who just got a stock Civic DX (bought by his parents) said it's over because since he has a Civic he can beat anyone now.

Also yea if i was ever to own an American car, I'd only get a V8, that's true American muscle, I wouldn't call a V6 american muscle. About reliability, I'd say an American car can last pretty long if it was maintained well. It can last longer than an import if it's maintained well while the import was not. But if both are maintained well, I don't think the American car can last as long and it will run into more problems when it reaches the 100k mi mark. I know 4 people who have Honda preludes with over 260k miles on em, no major problems and still running fine. People with the older 240s hit the 300k mile mark. I have seen some American cars that last long, but as long as imports last.

I thank you for your compliment and your dose of realism. I hope I didn't offend any import owners, i didn't want to stereotype but that is my experience, and it is foolish at that.
I owned a v6 camaro for years, and I love my car to death, but reality is reality and it is a 15sec car stock. I mean, dont get me wrong, it is pretty powerful... i mean, i bet a lot of cars w/ it. But now i have an LS1 for the obvious reason, my old car was a cheap knock-ff... this is how a camaro is supposed to be. My friend has a 240, and his 4 banger sounded just as mean as my 6, we never got to race though. But I have a lot of respect for those ill cars with 50/50 or near 50/50 weight distribution. I wish my car had a perfect 50/50. It's just like you saying, damn, I wish my 240 had 350 horses... but you have more of a chance getting that wish than i do mine. Don't get me wrong, of course the LS1 handles well, and it does what it was meant to do, go in a straight line, fast, very fast. To tell you the truth (you could mention this to your friend) I almost feel like a "ricer" thinking thatmy v6 Camaro was badass.

If you ask me, 80% of the problems cars get are caused by the driver. Your car will run and last a lot longer if you take good care of it. Factory flaws do happen, but this goes for every automotive company. If you drive your car easy it will out last the guys who drive their car hard whether it be a domestic or import.
You simply don't buy a V8 Trans Am because you think it will be a good reliable daily driver. Buying a malibu or such would be more reasonable in this situation. My dad owns an old 88 Scottsdale and he uses it more than his new F-150 (he wants to keep the miles off the Ford). It has 278K+ miles on the 305 and it is still ticking. This goes to show that maintaining your car can really pay off.

Back on the topic: I would rather be driving the 240 over a V6 firebird. If your going to get an F-body it mines will have a V8.

^ yea I know. I usually go easy on my car except when I feel the need for speed, or when my song comes up and hypes me up. Then I'll slam on the gas. Thing I hate about my car is the only way to feel speed is to floor it, or else it accelerates very slowly. damnit I need a new engine

I'm glad people can be realistic and realize that one company is not so way ahead of the other, in fact, it is most like the other way around... the industry itself agrees and sets the standards. Cereal, there is the big three, General Mills, Kellogg, Post. On one level, they are competeing, but on another level don't you think they are cooperating... do you really really think cereal costs that damn much to make?

^ yep, it's more of just preference. Nothing is clear-cut, each cars have their pros and cons and there is no one better car. Just which one you prefer
