Anyone out there know if they are the same car? If not, what're the differences?

Yes, the 03/04 Nissan Skyline is re-badged in America as the Infiniti G35.

Yep, absolutely correct. Here's a link to what Nissan said when they released the Skyline coupe. They mention the fact that it's in the US as the G35.

they are not the EXACT same car, so really the g35 isnt a skyline, although they have many of the same features. i believe the g35 is missing the power behind the car, the rb26det (or rb26dett if its a gtr).

The question was whether the g35 was identical to the V35 skyline, and the answer is YES!!

The G35 has the same engine (VQ35DE), chassis, transmission, etc. as the V35...

It may not be the same as the R34 skylines, but those were discontinued in 2002... Nissan never made an engine with the RB26DET designation... you're probably referring to the RB25DET that came in the GTS-Ts

There currently is no GTR... that is supposed to come out in 2007...

The current Skyline in Japan and the Infiniti G35 are very similar. With the exception of a few options in Japan such as an 8-speed CVT, or a smaller VQ25DE engine, they are pretty much identical.

The Skyline Coupe and G35 Coupe have even fewer differences between them. It might just be the badging.

i thought r34 non-gtrs had the 26det....are they all using the 26dett?

the current model skyline, which is NOT an r34, is identical to the g35 coupe and sedan in the states.
the rb26 is no longer in production, and was last seen in the r34, which i believe ended production in 2001 or 2000 (not 100%)
but the CURRENT skyline and g35 are identical.

(CVT trannies don't have gears, as they are continuously variable... like audi, it may be broken into separate "gears" or areas of the power band, but it's all one "gear")

Yeah, the RB26DETT production ended with the R34 GTR which was last produced in 2002. The non-GTR R34's ended a year or two earlier.

Again, the Skyline and G35 are the same cars, granted the US doesn't and never will get all the options Japan has, but, that is just a lack of options on an identical car. From just having looked at the Infiniti site (normally don't waste my time to do that just because I don't want to see how expensive those badges cost), the G35 Sedan doesn't get the 2.5 or 3.0 engines, only the 3.5. The coupes pretty much share the same options as the Japanese ones.

cool, thanx everyone. yeah, i was quite shocked when i was browsin around the japanese nissan site and saw that the new skyline looked exactly like the g35, so i had to make sure. okay, i don't own a skyline or a g35, so it's back to my normal forum.

Nope...NOT the same. Same sheet metal....lhd vs rhd. BOTH FUGLY. They ruined the Skyline!

oi_boy

actually the skyline production truly came to an end in 2003 (they made 2-3 in 2003 before finally ending production)

ok.
let's lay this out.
the current model skyline, the v35, is identical (save for driving position and some other options) to the g35.
what motor does the g35 have in it?
not the rb26. and nothing that crosses over with it.

the rb26 got dropped b/c it couldn't pass japanese emissions anymore.

so no. it's got nothing in common with the r32-r34 for now.

No more RB's... :disappoin

Now the engines of the V35 body Skyline/G35 are the VQ's. The Skyline Sedan can have the VQ25, VQ30 or the VQ35, while the Coupe gets only the VQ35. The G35 Sedan and Coupe only get the VQ35.

The VQ is Nissan's newest cross-platform engine that actually has a lot of power. It'll be nice to see if they give the new GTR (if/when it shows up) a turbo'd version like the JGTC GTR's run. :naughty:

The 'R35' GT-R will probably be getting a turbo VQ. I was hoping for a version of the VK V8, since there would be more stock torque and even more tuning potential, but I read that the weight distribution will be better with the VQ.

I found out something interesting about the VQ the other day: The motor has iron cylinder liners. No wonder people are getting 500hp on stock VQ30s!

The VQ isn't that new, either. It's been on sale in the US for almost 10 years now.

The differences between the Skyline and the G35 (Both are V35 bodies):

A few options (can't get the VQ25 or VQ30 equiped sedans in the US, not that you'd want them)

And the only real difference, steering wheel location.

Don't forget the CVT available on the V35 Skyline, as well. We don't get that in the States either.

No one really knows what it will even look like, let alone how it will drive yet, so don't worry so much.

If CEO Carlos Ghosn wants to target the 911 turbo with this car, you know it's going to be good.

NISMO is not using the the Skyline (G35) in the JGTC this year. They went to the 350z which incedently owned in the first round of the Championship at TI Circuit already.

That's the new Skyline, but it's v35. What everyone hopes is the R35 is the new GTR if and when it comes out. The v35 is now a luxury model, fans of the Skyline's power and race history don't like the newest Gen. But the fact is it was what Nissan needed to produce to satisfy the market. Something, believe it or not, the R34 was not doing. Nissan was on the verge of bankruptcy for a couple of years until it redid it's entire lineup. And the fact is, in Japan, the V35 is selling better then the R34 ever did. Plus, they have US's Infiniti sales to add into that now! And from the rumors I've been hearing, the V35 is about to go to Europe now.
