Drift Police Task Force

Ahhhhh! HAVE YOU GUYS READ THE ARTICLE ABOUT TOUGE DRIFTING IN IMPORT-TUNER? I usually do not read this mag but I had to get it for the article... I guess the COPS are aware of the DRIFTING scene in the mountains and are taking action in the local mountains around here in So.Cal.! I don't really watch too much TV but I guess I heard there was a NEWS report on a LA news station about street drift?
So, I guess this new task-force is giving anyone who is caught drifting or has a modified car and does not live in the local mountains a ticket and impounding their cars! So watch-out guys... this task force is already spreading to a town near you! They even started to do it in Japan...
This kinda reminds me of the street-races that they used to hold in LA and Ontario, Ca. and how the cops started cracking down after that FASTnFURIOUS mess! Ugh... I knew this would happen with drifting!

Lol, "Drift Police Task Force" it sounds like when you go to the dollar store they have those cheap toy gun packages called "Space Ninja Police Force"
doesnt anyone drift or race in the industrial parks? thats the best place, lots of roads and almost no people to run over!

...but the Industrial Parks are where everyone is fleeing from to the mountains to drift.... you cannot even race in Ontario, Ca. anymore cus they got curfews and speedbumps on every industrial road... it's hard to find a good spot 'cus they are limited and once evryone starts going to the one good spot... it's gonna get spoiled and the cops will find-out about it!

No wait! I've got a solution!
Join an 'effin club like the SCCA or NASA and run track days like YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO.
Trust me, it's a lot more respectable to compete in sanctioned events than it is to go up on the "touge".

Yes-Yes... I agree... but not all of us can afford the expenses of the TRACK! C'mon... racing, drifting, etc. started on the streets... you can never completely get rid of illegal racing/drifting! I would love to go to racing school, join a race sanctioning body, and compete professionally... but I cannot afford that! I barely make it through just maintaining my car! How about you guys?

First of all, nobody said that you have to compete as a pro, just go to a track. C'mon, you can autocross your 3Z for like $30 and all you need is a helmet (this is solo2 right).

Yep, you've got Solo II, Solo I, track days, and even amateur drift events like those held at many dragstrips, road courses, and short tracks around the country.
SCCA membership usually runs around $300 a year, but that'll make you eligible to run autocrosses and track days in your local chapter just about every weekend from early spring to late fall.
And renewal afterwards is significantly less.
Club racing and membership in an amateur racer's organization like SCCA or NASA is one of the best things you can do with your performance car.
And yes, you can pay single event charges to run just once or twice. These vary depending on the event, but are manageable.

That'd be pretty easy to fight in Court. Especially if you're like me and don't race on mountain roads. You just go for a drive. They'd have no proof that I was 'racing' or 'drifting'.
But, if all goes according to my personal plans... I wouldn't have to worry about getting tickets. Cops don't ticket other Cops. ;)

The task force is spreading wherever DRIFTING is 'popular' or a 'nuisance'... I'm guessing in larger more populated area's. The article states that there is already a team in HAWAII.
Yes, I know IMPORT-TUNER is gay... I only bought it for the article! They don't even give car stats... I wish we had good mags like OPTION over here....
Drifting (as a sport) started on the streets, S13 Iketani... it just seems kids over here jump the bandwagon in huge masses and the MOTHERS OF AMERICA get more involved and want to abolish everything over here more! I heard from a friend stationed in Japan that Street Drifting is hard to find in Japan nowadays. Everyone does highway-racing or touge-racing now...

Stop whinging 1viadrft and take it to the track.
If you can't afford to go to the track you can't do it, full stop. This thread highlights one of the things that annoys me the most - I hate it when jumped up little tossers think they deserve to be able to run riot on public roads, just because their hormone fuelled desire to fly around the place takes over their sense of public responsibility.Of course when police step in to stop thier life endangering stupidity, they get up in arms.
Then, they have the gall to call themselves "street racers" which is a contradiction in terms.
In any case, I doubt you'll get picked on by the cops in your bone stock, auto, atmo Z - hardly an attention getter....

As far as I can tell, its the drifting forum, not the "being an asshole on public roads" forum. So what is wrong with that advice?
Drifting is like so many sports or activities. If you don't have the cash to do it properly you shouldn't be doing it. In this case, properly means not endangering life and limb on public roads.
Hence I would support any police move to clamp down on this stupid behaviour.
If it pleases the court, I shall retract the earlier statement that Mr 1viadrft (or should we say 300zxnodrift, since he neither owns a "1via" or drifts) is an ass.

The street racing scene in america deserves to be arrested if it can't hold its underglow. The track is the way to get that heat off of us backroads bombers. I figure, two years and we can go back to the mountains.

i love the "keep it off the street" attitude that people like to take.
if you speed, you're just as "guilty" as the people that drift on public roads.
no one here has any room to point fingers on any sort of law breaking, regardless.
just deal with it.

Perhaps I should move to the position of keep it low profile, don't be dicks, and keep it away from civilisation - ie don't get caught.
Also maybe things are different (of course they are) where others are, but here, the mountain roads are challenging enough that , especially in winter, even reaching the posted speed limit is hard work even for an extremely well setup car and good driver... So speeding's not the issue in my neck of the woods (Tasmania, down under downunder), more the way people behave. I just assumed that was a fairly universal position?

As usual, Import Tuner has no clue what they are talking about. Cops here in Japan are NOT "cracking down" on drifters (personally I don't think that tearing up your car on public streets and endagering other people is drifting).
The bottom line is that driving like a jackass in your car on public roads is illegal in any country and people get busted when they get caught.
I'm glad that the cops are cracking down on this in the states.

I for one do not call attention to myself by crashing my car in the middle of FARMERS-MARKET while racing/drifting so it can be aried on channel 4 news. I hate the idiots that do and I always knew this was gonna happen to drifting just like it did to street-racing.

-What car should I buy threads - how about one sticky simply saying "BUY A GODDAMN CHEAP, LIGHT, RESPONSIVE RWD CAR THATS EASY TO GET PARTS FOR" Comparo threads may be different.
-Work on removing the "its cool to drift and compete on the street" and the "fvck da po-leeece stoppin me from killin' myself in ma's truck" elements.

um. Okinawa is hardly Japan. That's like saying that Guam is the US. Kind of, but not quite. I happen to live in Iwakuni, about 45 minutes south of Hiroshima. And just to warn you, if you're looking to make friends out here by preaching reckless engagerment for people and property (including you're own) by saying that the Police, as before mentioned, are just out to crack down on the drifters. You're in the wrong forum. Try Streetracingonline. there's more of that mentality (or lack of it) there.
You can sit there and say "Street racing and drifting started on the streets" all you want. One day, you will grow up and realize, "Hey, you know, the whole reason that there are sanctioned sporting and racing events in the first place is because driving like that on public roads is just DUMB!"

The task force is spreading wherever DRIFTING is 'popular' or a 'nuisance'... I'm guessing in larger more populated area's. The article states that there is already a team in HAWAII.
I live in Hawaii, and haven't heard of such. Street racing has cost many lives here, and the worst accident in history on a particular freeway occured several weeks ago, where four of six involved where burned to death, one being innocent. Basically, two cars (I beleive both were Eclipses, holding two people a car) owned by military 'people' decide to race, and both hit a highway service truck.
Things that were done so far, there was a proposal that if you're caught going 30+ mph over the speed limit (Freeway Max range from 55-60mph) you can will be impounded, but the police was against it because of the lack of storage for the cars they would be taking.
Another proposal was for the 18 and under driver to have a curfew... basically you have to have a 'responsible' adult in the car after 11 pm, and can only have one 'friend' in the car. None of these proposals have been passed yet, but here we have things such as Drift Session (http://www.driftsession.com) to keep racers hyped up.
It's best to keep your racing off the streets, a downhill, curvy road to the area I live in has many road-side graves on many of the turns. Most of them deal with DUI.
I hope all of you race responsibly. If you want to push your car to the limit, keep it at your local track.

1via - you are not king shit around here. so take your head out of your ass and stop thinking that everyone cares about what you have to say! you are NOT the authority on drifting, you drive a shitty car (what's done to your car to make it "touge spec"? the fact that it's automatic? btw, "touge" and "Z32" don't even belong in the same sentence), and think you know everything when i bet you haven't even performed a real drift in your lifetime.
how old are you? even if you do end up being older then me, your immaturity wipes out whatever age difference there may be. i'm 19, but at least i act responsibly, maturely, and act my age if not older. if you are any older then 17, that would seriousley surprise me, because that's what your mentality makes you out to be.
on the whole street-drifting thing - YES drift started on the street. YES they still do it in Japan. BUT, do we live in Japan? for the most part, no. most of the members on here are NOT in Japan, so that kind of shit simply does not fly over here. if you want to get yourself arrested or killed, then go ahead and drift on the streets. wreck your car, kill yourself or others, get arrested/charged, or, at the very least, get bad publicity brought upon the sport of drifting. if that's your mentality, then most of us true drift enthusiasts would kindly ask you to fuck off and go back to street racing.

how old are you? even if you do end up being older then me, your immaturity wipes out whatever age difference there may be. i'm 19, but at least i act responsibly, maturely, and act my age if not older. if you are any older then 17, that would seriousley surprise me, because that's what your mentality makes you out to be.
on the whole street-drifting thing - YES drift started on the street.

Feel better now? Being a Mod doesn't give you the authority to talk crap! What did I say to crown myself KING-SHIT? I'm not quite catching this...

I suppose 'R34' and 'touge' don't go together either.... or 'DC2' or any other car! Right? Fact is... that you can make any car car 'touge-spec' (Have you seen the touge-spec Vitz?). Sorry if you think my car sucks... but what do you drive? I'm not sure what I did to get everyone so pissy... I never glorified "STREET-RACING/DRIFTING" in this thread, guys... I'm just concerned that you guys don't realize where it all started and I pointed that out. To everyone else: sorry this thread got all out of whack, guys... this kinda stuff pisses me off and I wish I had no-part of AF sometimes... but I still learn alot through this fine FORUM despite its lack of leadership qualities (what do you gotta do to be a MOD anyhow?). :screwy:
Back to the Topic: I do not remember what part of Hawaii this was at... but it involved DRIFTING in the mountains/rural part and not STREET-RACING on the roads... I shall return with the exact City/Area. Too bad about that accident! Sucks! :disappoin
--1viadrft "not-king-shit or dorifto kin"... but I drive a suck-ass Z32! LoL :iceslolan

you don't even need to worry about that because I think its safe to say I have a better chance of being a mod than you and I'm pretty dang sure that wont be happening.

but hey, I drift on the street, only on back contry roads, and only 1 or 2 corners at a time, and I don't go all out crazy style because I don't wanna wreck(or not severely atleast) I have nowhere else to drift so thats where I do it, although I'm sure to stay away from other people, and I'm willing to risk wrecking my car to drift(they kind of go hand in hand ya know)

i didn't "talk crap", i merely expressed my views on the way you act on this forum.
and no, being a moderator doesn't give me any sort of higher power. i don't consider myself higher then anyone else. and trust me, being a moderator isn't as fun as it sounds. it's work. i'm basically a normal member who also has the added task of closing threads, banning members, and doing all sorts of other fun work, all of which, i might add, is unpaid. i do it for free because i'm helping AF by doing it.
so instead of bashing mods, how about giving us some acknowledgment for the free work we do to keep this place spam-free for you guys?
i don't use my "powers" for my own personal gain, and my views above were not expressed simply because i am a moderator. 7th_Skyline expressed his views too, and he's not a moderator, is he?
with that said, i think this thread has gone quite far enough.
