Aircraft paint stripper is the most effective thing to remove the paint.

local car parts store. freakray is right, I sprayed that stuff on my diecast and it bubbled the paint right off. I mean, you could practically "shake" the paint off it works so well.

I haven't used it yet, but I had to go to an automotive paint store to get it, because the parts store didn't carry it. If you have an auto paint store near you, just go there right off the bat instead of wasting your time running around on the off chance that the parts store will have it.
