Well I have kind of a dilema...you see I want to do drifting and/or circuit racing but my parents both think that it is to dangerous and I could crash and hit a wall (which I probably would).

In addition I can't get any major modifications to my Nissan 240sx 92 until after high school. (I want to get an SR20DET engine swap)

So since auto cross seems safe (not saying it can't be dangerous) and is all about the driver and handling I got a few questions...

1.Are there horse power classes???

2.When, where, and how often are they held???

Thanks...

yes autox should be safe for you as long as you know your limits and don't go crazy on the course;)

1. yes there are classes, both for stock cars and for the mods you have

2. chheck here for your region's website and check out their schedule:

autoX is def. the safest and most inexpensive racing out there. there are plenty of different classes (you only race against "equal" cars)

bring one or both of your 'rents with you... you'll have to if you are under 18, but if they run, maybe they'll get hooked (it's very addicting)

What do you mean by bring one of your "rents"...

Also what is "solo1" and "solo2"

Sorry about this...I have been following drifting and track for quiet a while but auto cross is completely new to me...

with "rents" i belive he just shorted the word parents

also solo1 is racing done on a proper track much like club level racing

solo2(aka autox) is done on courses drawn with cones

First off sorry about the all the questions but I am new to this form of racing...

OK so since I have a Nissan 240sx 92 I was wondering what class I would be in if I put on these mods...also I want to know if I would be competitive in that class...

1.Enkei RS6 Rims 17"

2.Tein "Super Street" suspension

3.Sparco "Fighter" racing seat

4.Apexi N1 Exhaust

5.Apexi Intake

6.Ings Body Kit

7.Yokahama (autocross) tires

8.Carbon Fiber Hood

9.Carbon Fiber Wing

Well that is about it until I am out of High School in 2 years then I can get a SR20DET engine swap and all my other modifications.

But for the list above what class would I be in this well be the last of my questions...hopefully...THANK YOU!!!

if your tires are not wider that 225 and with a threadwear above 140 you should fit in STS with what you have

btw don't expect to win at the very begining. just go for fun and to gain experience.

Only after lots and lots of practice you can get really competitive.

btw what kind of yokohama tires you have. I'm not aware of any "autocross" tires made by them

sts like neutrino said, or possibly street prepared...

but the "rents" (parents) comment was because if you aren't 18 you need to have a legal guardian sign for you to be at the event. insurance reasons...

wow that is a very good tire, even better than the A046 on the evos. I bet it cost you quite a bit. where did you buy them anyway?

BTW unless you have quite a bit of money or you can get those tires someplace cheap i would recomend runing with something cheaper. The Falken Azenis come to mind. Remember autox is very hard on tires.

good tires, but not necessarily the best... everywhere the tread comes to a point facing forward, there will be squirm in a turn.

hoosier autoX tires are the best rubber on the road right now... but you pay for it too

for pricing see www.tires.com discount carries most of them, they're also dependant on what size of tire you want.

Well I think I have decided Falken Azenis seemed to be more suited for my needs and well fit in nicely with my Enkei RS6 17" rims

What kind of settings do you want for you suspension for autocross any way...for example what do you want the front and back spring rates to be...you know...

Finally how do you posts pictures here???

Just go out and race, then figure out where you need to make tweaks.

If your comfortable with the settings on your cars and with the way it handles, and start getting some skill under yer belt, then ya can sweat the small stuff later.

My brother has been x'ing for about 10 years, and I have recently become interested in it. I assume once my Evo 8 MR arrives, I will only be more so.

I'm one of our regional autocross instructors and I recommend saving your money for mods.

The best mod for your car is to fix the "nut" behind the wheel. Here read my help page in my sig first.

The thing that most people do not get is that mods will not make your car faster. You can spend $1000 on a nice coilover system and maybe drop .1-.2 seconds on a 60 second course. Spend $50 on a Novice Autocross school or $200'ish on an Evo School and you can shave off 4-8 seconds on the same course.

Plus then you run into "TOO MANY ADJUSTMENTS" to make and you dont know if it was you or the car. I've seen too many people spend an entire hour trying to figure out what adjustment didn't make them go faster, whereas if you are in stock class the only thing you have to worry about is AIR PRESSURES and your alignment. So if you drove poorly at the event you know it was just YOU :)
