How to turn off headlights

I hate that the headlights come on automatically at night or in the dark.
The handbrake thing doesn't work on either of my cars.
What can I do to get them to turn off. I dont like blinding the neighbors a 5am when I go to work.

Maybe you could unplug the light sensor.
It's located on the dash on the right side if my memory is good.

I'm not sure, but the sensor must be clipped on the dashpad so you just have to carefully pry it up(be carefull not to fuck up the dashpad) and unplug it. And check that your lights and everything works normally.

No kidding my stupid car doesn't wanna start, went to have fun in the snow, now looks like the gas froze in the lines and it's so cold it's been 2 days I don't have my car.
Starting to get pissed:mad:
Hopefully I'll repair it tomorow at work.

Yeah it's been pretty cold here even during the day. I wish I had a garage or something like that to park my car in and keep it warm.

Pulling out the plug for the sensor works, but try putting the car into gear. It still goes on or releasing the parking brakes. This only turns off your daytime running lights upon starting your car.

Any ideas on how to remove this? I found this site that tells you what you need to do, but it states that you do it at your own risk.

This turns off your automatic headlights. Grand Vitaras are not equipped with DRL. Maybe a Vitara since they are made in canada. Not sure on them. Not many of those around here. GV are everywhere.

I'm gonna have to disagree with that, I have a 2000 Grand Vitara and these have DRL.

DRL is Daytime running lights. GVs do not ahve lights that come on whenever you have your car running. They come on when it gets dark out. Auto headlamps.

I KNOW they dont have them.

Sorry Tydog.. I gotta disagree too... I have a 2000 Grand Vitara Limited and it has DRL + Auto Headlamps. It's kinda frustrating cause the lights never go off!

Not sure if this works on all Vitaras, but I noticed that there is a position between ON and ACC on the ignition switch that disables the Auto Headlamps. On my 2000 GV, I would have the car on... then turn the key just a tad bit towards the ACC position (u feel it click in place). The jeep remains running, but the auto headlamps do not come on even if it is dark. You have to manually turn them on. Hope this helps someone.

Hmm I'll have to check it out in the morning.

But I did unplug the sensor so now the auto lights never come but, the daytimes do once I release the e-brake.

Thats the way I like it. I don't mind the daytimes but them darn AUTO's stink!

The jeep remains running,

I know this is an old post but I just have to say this.

IT'S NOT A JEEP!!!

Hi guys -

I've got a 2000 GV with the DRLs and auto lights too. I don't mind that the autos come on, although it would be nice to be able to turn them off when I am parked. I've also noticed that they tend to go on and off at the slightest hint of dark, like driving through tree shadows. Does anyone know if there's a way to adjust the amount of time the sensor needs to be dark before the lights come on?

PS: a GV isn't a Jeep

A long shot.... Most GM cars have a Dome Override button. This button can be pressed on and off 5 times and it will turn off the headlights.

I also have a 2000 GV and it DOES have DRL and autolights!
