I have a 1997 Thunderbird and I was wanting to do some performance upgrades to it. It has the 3.8 liter V6. I have heard of people removing the air silencer and/or cutting out the mass airflow sensor. What are the advantages to these two things and how do you remove the air silencer or cut out the mass airflow sensor?

That link didn't work for me. It kept saying that the web page could not be displayed. Are there any other resources that you know of that I could use?
