Don't you think this guy who is featured heavily in Grip videos and htat Hasiriya video is overrated? IE they made him out to be better than Tsuchiya but the drift king is at the D1 Grand prix in some form whereas i saw Drifter X once and he wiped out. Not only that but he's not featured at all on the leader boards.
IE He sucks and i hate Grip video.

Komatsu is definitley talented, but DEFINITLEY over-rated.
i've heard from many sources that he has never qualified for a single round of D1 competition. Bai has. this is not to say he's not talented, because he is, but he's definitley blown out of proportion.
if you ask a bunch of self-professed "drift freaks" over here who their fave driver is, 8 times out of 10 they'll probably say "Komatsu" because they are drift-bandwagon jumpers and since he's the guy who's been over here the most, he's the only guy they know.
it's also sad that people were disappointed when Komatsu had to be replaced by Atsushi Kuroi at the first D1 USA, and also at the Signal exhibition here in Toronto. Kuroi is a much better driver, and has qualified for D1 on many occasions. but simply because he is relativley "underground" and hasn't done a bunch of exhibitions in the US, people dismissed him as crap and not worthy of replacing Komatsu.
truth is: Komatsu is talented. but he is NOT the best driver out there, and he is NOT the be-all and end-all of drifters. US guys just make it out to be like that because he's the only name they know.
but it doesn't really matter that much. knowing the names of underground japanese drifters does not make you a better driver. likewise, only knowing the name of one (Komatsu) does not make you a worse driver.
i think Grip Video isn't bad though.

id agree the signal boys are way to over rated i thought they were the best when i saw them but then i saw kumakubo and kazama...those guys are far better..its just that eveybody knows the "twins" so they get the most respect.

I don't see why you consider Grip Video terrible NSX, but yes I agree with both NSX and S13 saying that Komatsu is over-rated. I mean some of these wannabes don't even know who Tsuchiya is.

grip video does, indeed, suck ace.
i have the first one they put out, and it's seriously pathetic.
i'm not going to be buying anything else they put out...
the twins got mad coverage in superstreet and import tuner...
that should say something... ;)
i like them, and i'd love to own their cars, but hey...

i definitley suggest you do not judge all of Grip Video simply going by what you saw in the first one. the first one was, indeed, total crap. i agree. but that was just for them to try and cater to all audiences to get a foot-hold in the market. i've seen 2 and 3, and they've cut way back on the rice-show coverage, and have more good stuff. while i still think they aren't the BEST...i can respect them alot more then some of the other super-ricey car vids out there.

They also got huge coverage in a canadian mag called PAS (performance auto sound), which is an oxymoron in itself. The mag made the "Signal Duo" out to be godlike of course, and easily the best drifters in the world. Not in those exact words, it's just that if a drifting newb like myself were to read only that article, they would know of nothing better. Good ol AF :iceslolan
This is also the mag that I first read about the famed "Drift Bible" in. Go figure.

well, you gotta remember that PAS is a shitty ricer mag mostly. i got a subscription to it (only because it came with a signed poster of hot model chicks), and i wish i'd saved my $10. so in their ricer eyes, the Signal Duo ARE godlike.
btw, if you're talking about the issue with the coverage of the Signal event in Brampton, look at the main picture of the article. it's got one of the twins mid-drift. if you look at the crowd in the background, part-way along there's a guy wearing a red t-shirt with white lettering on the back. his arm is outstretched and there's a leather bracelet on his arm.
that's me. :icon16: i was wearing my red Signal "THE MAD ROCK THE HOUSE" t-shirt on the second day on top of a collared white golf shirt (you can see the collar if you look close enough) and also never take off my leather Volcom bracelet...so it's definitley me. hehe. my crappy claim to fame. :uhoh:
oh yeah, and the pics of all the amateurs: the pale blue AE86 with all the chalk dust behind it is my friend Roby, and the red 240SX hatchback is my friend Mike.

you got it! thanks buddy!
i have that shirt pinned on my wall now. don't want to wear it cause i don't want to wash it and risk ruining it. since i bought it early in the day, i got one of the only red ones that they had! i also got the last Signal window banner that they had. it looks like the one on Chunky's car in that picture, except it's white lettering instead of blue and says "SIGNAL: THE STAGE OF STREET" and then the little turbine symbol at the end is a silver mirror finish. this was handed to me by Chunky Bai himself and now rests on the windshield of my 240SX. :icon16:

They are not over-rated by any means, they are simply just seen more than anyone else on the drift circuit in the United States because Signal has gone along way to promote themselves in North America more than the other companies, therefore you are more likely to see them mentioned in the drifting scene stateside because it's easy to see they are around here more than anyone else. also, sure they aren't the greatest, but they make the sport enjoyable and fun.

I've been into drifting for a long time now, seen a bunch of option videos of D1 and exibition and what not, but the only driver I know by name is Yamamoto and I don't think I've ever even seen him on a video, just in mags, I only know his name cuz I love his car and I have some pictures on my wall :) my personal favorite car is a yellow rx-7 on one of the option videos, no idea who drives it, never heard of him just saw the video, fell in love with the car and his driving, and in a close second is the red HKS S15 Silvia, don't know who drives it but its nice

The HKS Silvia is Nob Taniguchi, not sure about a yellow RX7

Mitsuri Haraguchi probably.
he's insane....such a good driver, and his car has earned the nick-name "hovercraft" because it's so low and the body kit (BN Sports) sticks out so far at the bottom that the car does literally look like it's hovering.
