I'm sure it didn't take too long, as long as he had an available track to practice on and the right set-up and plenty of money it would be easy if you ask me... personally I think that if I was rich and had access to a track I could learn that fairly quick, but it would take a long time to learn to REALLY DRIFT as in a RWD car

Want to tell me why that's any easier than drifting an FR?

well first off I've owned both, and I e-braked my FF all the time, around corners, into my driveway, around light posts(slalom style), around speed bumps(slalom style), jacker around in parking lots, the best time was when my friend, who has a 96 eclipse turbo, and me went threw our neighborhood e-braking around every corner, as in like turn left off one block and go down to the next block going sideways... it was so easy, I never wrecked, came close to wrecking, just had bad tires. and in my rx7 it is so much freakin harder, you have to acctually use a technique in a RWD, but in a FF you just pull the e-brake and kinda go down, up, down, up, same with the gas...

plus with a FF you aren't ever out of control, you don't spin out or anything, and if your horrible enough to mess up(not sure how you'd do that) just straighten the wheel, drop the e-brake and ease into the gas and your in total control, not that you were ever really out of control...

in RWD you can get your back end too far around and spin out, you have to use different techniques, not just turn the wheel and pull the e-brake like on a FF. and on RWD your tires actually spin the whole time and you have to know what your doing.

my cousin is THE WORST DRIVER EVER, a lot of people say girls can't drive, well he drives like hes a 5 year old girl, its terrible, he know nothing about cars or drifting and he can e-brake like crazy, slalom around stuff and everything...

now, this is right from www.d1g.com and I think they'd know what it is...

I drive an MR car, arguably the hardest to drift because of snap oversteer tendencies and rear weight bias, and I can't drift in FF at all. It sounds more like you learned some good techniques driving FF and became profficient at drifting in your Civic, then when you switched to the RX-7 they no longer worked with an FR drivetrain.

I didn't have a civic(thank God) I had a '90 plymouth laser, piece of trash car, but I don't try anything the same in my FR car, I just haven't had much time to test things out yet since its been icy and snowy, and now the clutch is out... but I will deffinately agree its said that MR is the hardest to drift, never tried it but thats what I hear from everyone who has. I've seen some nice mr2 drift videos though so its far from impossible thats for sure...

but anyways, its not like its a totally simple thing to do in FF cars, but if you've driven one very long and enough to know how your car handles it is really easy to judge where the car is going and keep it going where you want it. but in a FR its more unpredictable, thus making it harder, thats what I consider being hard. cuz if I can predict exactly what the car will do in every situation it just seems so easy... but FR is just more out of control

basically this would never be anything anyone would argue about... if it wasn't for the fagg ricers that say "I can drift my civic!" just cuz they can e-brake around a corner. if it wasn't for them FR people wouldn't be so worried about FF people making videos like this one, we just happen to be very found of our dear drifting, and don't like anything that threatens its reputation... but basically as long as people with FF don't call it drifting they can do whatever they want, because by definition, its not drifting and thats all there is to it. I mean you don't see us getting mad at AWD people, because by definition they are drifting(rear wheels break traction and spin throughout the whole thing)

so don't call it drifting and everything will be ok

Please no more arguing over the whole FF, FR thing. It's a stupid discussion that this forum in it's short existense has already had too many times.

First off, "by definition" ANY CAR, with ANY drivetrain configuration can drift. end of story Too many people believe that only rear-wheel drive cars can "drift" because when they think of drifting, they only think of "power-on" drifting, that is breaking the traction of the rear wheels by giving them power. This is only one of many different ways to drift a car, and is not the end-all, be-all technique. Just as using the parking brake is only one of several ways to get an FF car sideways, it's not the only way, and it's the easiest. There are other ways, for those more understanding of how their car responds to throttle, such as inducing oversteer by lifting off of the throttle, etc. It takes time to learn different techniques to control different cars.

Anyway, that's my two cents. I would ask on behalf of everybody here, to cease the FF/FR argument - if you still don't like it feel free to PM me and complain. But if it continues in this thread, this thread will probably be closed.

EDIT: also just to file away in your "misc info" folder, a powerslide with an FF car, would result in understeer, not oversteer. And while technically, understeer is exceeding a car lateral traction (a "drift") it is the exact opposite motion than that most of us tend to think of when we read the word "drifting" :wink:

ok well since the Japanese came up with drifting, and said its when the rear wheels break traction and spin it is a drift, then I believe its correct, I could care less what you have to say about it cuz the fact is, FF CAN NOT DRIFT!!

and you say exceeding a cars lateral acceleration is a drift, this is only somewhat true, because the back wheels must also break traction and spin. end of discussion.

you might as well close this thread cuz I'm gonna argue it untill you do because I know I'm right and I'm not big on leaving incorrect information uncorrected.

People have been drifting, since before the Japanese were even mass producing automobiles - it would be more correct to say that the Japanese came up with drifting for show.

If you want to argue, you can still take it to PM, I'd be willing to type my fingers off if I thought we'd get anywhere.
