I have a '92 Bronco with a 351. I'd like to upgrade to a newer engine, such as a 5.4 out of a Expo. Is this possible and which year is best with the least amount of mods(Computer, wiring harness ect)?

Why not just take the motor out of the last couple of years of the bronco if not. Probably the best idea would be to take one of the earliest 5.4s and try to put it in, but i warn it will be difficult and might be expensive(not sure how much) I used to have an 81 Bronco with a 302 I loved it but i couldn't afford to pay for gas so i just got a 95 4.6 T-bird (more power than most people think) to save gas. The new motors have alot of power with better gas use due to things like overhead cams and computers. If you can do it cheap then it would be worth it.

You will be better off buying a donor vehical, because you are going to need the wiring harness, same tranny, and the PCM module for this to work. Possibly different fuel pump for different pressures. I would take the money going into that and rebuild that 351 and make a mild build, about 9.5:1 comp, put a carb on it, dual exhaust with headers, rv cam, and get a computer controller for your trans, and i bet you will get better MPG.

I wouldn't do eather. If the engine is bad rebuild it but be careful of mods the computer woun't like it. I would never trade injection fo a carb. :screwy:
You might get buy with using a 302 cam & get a littel better gas.
Broncos are heavy & use a lot of gas. :uhoh:
An other thing to keep in mind is that you have to change the trany & drive train & it is computer controaled. :banghead: The tranys are junk in the Explorers.
Why are you wanting to make the swap?
