sup guys this is my first time posting in a car forum so if you need any more information than what i give you just ask.
ok here it goes. I have a 1995 Honda Civic EX with a 4 cyl 1.6 SOHC VTEC...AUTO :disappoin I'm thinking about swaping a Honda Prelude 2.2 1992-1996 DOHC VTEC into it. Is it worth it? Is this motor the way to go? and should I take the time to convert my automatic trans car into a manual?...... I have a friend that has a 96 just like mine but he kept the SOHC that was automatic but now is manual and has a turbo!
OH yeah one of the other thing is will i totaly need to rewire the car front to back?
hope this helps. remember need more info just ask!

The H22 isn't the greatest motor to swap into your EX. It's been pretty heavily debated as to whether it affects handling and I'm still not sure whether you can get a straight answer on that topic. Also, the H series engine doesn't have as big aftermarket support as the B series engines do.
If you look at cost too, you can see the H-series swaps are a lot less than B-series swaps and there is a reason for it, there is no demand for those engines. My suggestion would be, look at the B16 and B18C swaps. It'll be a lot easier to swap and save you some headaches that come with putting that monster engine into your car.

GS thanks for posting.
ok i have been looking at the differance between the h22 and the b16 and i think the b16 is more resonable now. it will cost me about double what i was gonna pay for the h22 but in all not too much. i guess you can say the avantages out weigh the price. such as the h22 seems to weigh more than the b16.... from what im reading. and about 200lb more than my stock motor now. also while im at it im thinking of geting my motor off of ebay! is this a good idea or not? if not might you know of any places that sell good b16...... by the way what year/make/model does the b16 come from so that i can look up complete swap/xover kits on a site i know. this is one place im looking at for kits. check it out if you get a chance... www.rcsr.com

www.hmotorsonline.com is a great place to get you're swap. Depending on which B16 motor you get, it could have came out of a few different cars. 1st generation JDM B16's came out of Integra Xsi and Civic Sir's. 2nd generation JDM B16's came out of Civic Sir's. B16A2 is the 99-00 Si motor and B16A3 is the Del Sol VTEC motor. You can swap in any of those Except the 1st generation B16 because you have to swap an engine that is the same year or newer as your car for it to be legal. Also, if you're in Cali, all JDM engines are out of the question. There are ways to get around smog, but you'd just be better off getting a USDM motor. Other than that, happy hunting.

a b16 would fit better but an h22 would kill it in a straight line... I was about to go the way of the h22 but then I found a local who wrecked his GSR so I grabbed the b18c... it is supposed to be a near straight drop in

it would definetely kill in a straight line, but then where's the fun in driving a car that can't hug the turns. That's what really attracted me to imports over domestics, just going straight gives you a nice buzz, but taking turns at break neck speed without thinking twice about it will give any man an orgasm.

yeah out of the two.. go with b16 it is easier for civic anyway due to engine compartment room i know in the 88-91 unless your going all track you need to hack your suspension apart to get the biatch to turn tightly with the H22 in it

ok.... well i live in Florida so i guess thats good for the smog thing. ok i looked the like you gave me GS looks good to me. lets just say im looking at "B16A 92-95 (SiR-II) Complete Change Over" because i want all the parts i need..... im most likely gonna go with the (JDM). now the thing im wondering about is going with the Hydraulic Tranny or the LSD Tranny to tell you the truth i dont know what LSD is! also the dude im having do the swap when i get all the parts has done 2 honda swaps in the last month and he is doing it for FREE!!! cuz he is cool like that.. but im still wondering if i should go the manual route??? does anyone know if the body structure for the auto is the same for the manual? in other words is there is there a place to put the clutch without doing a bunch of fabricating?
thanks agian guys....

if you want to go b16 you have to convert to manual. they did make auto b16's, but they are very rare and I think they were only offered with the 1st generation b16 engines. Doing the auto to manual conversion isn't that hard really, just time consuming. Also, you can't mate the B16 engine to your D16 tranny anyhow.
About LSD, what it stands for is Limited Slip Differential, what it does is send equal amounts of power to each front wheel. It's something that is pretty much useless unless you're hardcore into racing, whether it be drag, track or autocross. For daily driving, you don't need it at all.

nope you don't need the hydro to cable conversion. 4th generation and before had cable clutch trannies, every car after that has hydro cable trannies.
you will have to buy the clutch pedal and shifter assembly separately.

hello im new here i just wanted to say that i droped a jdm h22 into my stock 00 hatch about half a year ago and it was the best thing i have ever done. it is so amazing in power and i must admit at first i was scared of all the rumors i heard about stearing and difficulty in putting them in but it was the easiest swap i have ever done. it has great power and it is easy to control, the reason the motors are so cheap is because people are scared of them and i just wanted to let people know that it was cake and i promise you will not be let down by it.

also what size wheels do you have??? because i would think digger wheels would make the turning worse! say a h22 swap with 15"s compared to a h22 swap with 17"s.... the 17 would get worse handling.
