I have a 83 cav. with a 2.0 in it .The car stalls when you put it in gear.I was told to replace the tcc sensor so I did .It still does it I can't drive it unless I am already rolling down a hill when I put it in gear lol.The car shifts fine. When I have it in reverse the speedometer goes backward with the wheels off the ground acts like direct drive.Could it be the torque converter? The motor is good.Any tips would be appreciated.

the 125 transmissions installed in the cav's have a valve inside the trany that goes to the torque converter that clogs up with dirt & trash. It's best top replace this valve I don't remember the name of it right of hand .it is a commen problem for these transmission. somethings i did before i found this out, added a aftermarket cooler and trany service once a year.and also a trany flush (a shop would have to do that).I am a mechanic& i wouldn't recommend this, what i would do when it acted up i would start my car in nuetral and immediatly shift it to first (last gear sellection towards the back). as i built up speed 'shift to 2nd(next one up).and then drive.when i came to a stop i would shift back to nuetral.usually it would come unstuck.again i DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COULD DESTROY YOUR TRANSMISSION!
