why dont u put a b18c1 in like ur name implies? j/k A b18b1 is better, use that instead, but its cheaper for a b18a1.

90-91 integra b18a1 = 130hp
92-93 integra b18a1 = 140hp
94+ integra b18b1 = 142hp

just a little difference in hp. if ur going to get a motor, get the b18b, there's plenty of them around unlike it's older bothers and has that extra little hp, also u can find some with lower milelage.

I was quoted $5-6K for an OBDII gsr swap. How many miles are on it and hows the quality and reputation of the shop?

you have to have the b series tranny even if your si tranny was good. and you dont have to have a integra ecu but it will be better for it, ive had a 94 integra, a 94 civic x and a 92 civic lx ecu all running the same old 88 integra motor so it doesnt not let them run but it wont let it run to its full potential. and that 3k doesnt saound too bad, I saw it is 2200 plus shipping from h motors so if you did it yourself youd have at least 2600 into it just to get the swap, this way its done for 3k.

Besides the HP difference, there are more difference between the B18A1 and B18B1...

90-91 B18A1: 130HP, 121 ft/lbs of torque
92-93 B18A1: 140HP, 127 ft/lbs of torque
94+ B18B1: 142HP, 127 ft/lbs of torque. I think the peak torque may hit a few hundred rpm sooner, but off the top of my head I am not sure.

also, the B18A1 (all years) is a cable tranny and uses a mechanical speedo, the B18B1 is a hydro tranny and uses an electronic speedo.

As for a swap, it's always best to do the complete swap, the ecu, tranny, motor, drive axels, etc. Most prices include all this, and the $3000 should as well I would think. $3000 for a 95 B18B1 sounds about right for the complete swap installed.

but the dude, he said that the B18b uses the cable tranny...

no, the B18A1 was in the base model 90-93 integras, all of which are cable trannys, all integras 94+ are hydro trannys. and the B18B1 came from 94+ base tegs. if your car was cable you could bolt up a B18B1 block to your cable tranny though.

He is wrong, the B18B1 does not use a cable tranny. The 94-01 Integra had the B18B1...the 90-93 had the B18A1...the B18B1 uses a Hydro tranny, the B18A1 uses a cable tranny. Now, maybe he is using a b18A1 tranny and not telling you...I don't know. Either way, the you can get a cable-hydro and a hydro-cable tranny conversion kit from hasport, so you can still mat the Hydro B18B1 tranny to your Cable tranny'd CRX...but for the Record, the B18B1 does use a Hydro tranny, not a cable tranny. Now as I said, a hydro-cable conversion kit would solve your problem. But if he's selling you a complete 95 B18B1 swap, it's a Hydro Tranny and a OBD-I ECU.

Also, here is the info on the gearing for the trannies of the b18B1 and B18A1..the B18B1 tranny has a more turbo friendly final drive ratio...

B18B1: Hydraulic (S80)

Gear Ratios:
1st: 3.230
2nd:1.900
3rd:1.269
4th: 0.966
5th:0.714
Reverse:3.000
Final Drive:4.266

B18A1: Cable (S1/YS1)
Gear Ratios:
1st:3.166
2nd:1.857
3rd:1.259
4th:0.935
5th:0.742
Reverse:3.000
Final Drive:4.400

for future reference, here's a site with that info...

thanks for the infor but what is differnt between cable tranny and hydro tranny? Which one is better? what hydro trannys do? what cable trannys do?

hydro/cable is just the way the clutch is operated, in a car with a cable clutch, a cable is hooked on the throw out arem and the pedal and the pedal pulls the throw out arm, and in a hydraulic clutch the pedal pushes fluid through thje libne and pushes on tyhe throw out arm disengagig the clutch. which one is better depends on what car you got, and what gearing you prefer.

and for the cable tranny..when ever I shift into the 2nd gear than I heard the crack sound.so what's up?? I heard my friends said that it's hard to fix and cost a little money..but It still runs..so I just want to know what's wrong with my cable tranny...the crack sounds very loud...also when i try to shift to the 2nd gear...the stick pushes back ..

well, you are putting this in a CRX so id go cable. and im sure either trans is expensive to fix, cable or hydro. but if your getting a B18B swap its coming with a hydro tranny, if your getting the A1 swap then its coming with cable. maybe this shop[ has lots of stuff already there and you can get the B18B1 and have him bolt it up to a cable tranny so youll have the morre power and the trans meant for the clutch setup you already got.

cool..so which means that B18b with cable tranny more powerful than B18b1 hydro tranny in Crx?

Ok...umm...I get the distinct impression you are very confused...so...I'll try and clear this up....no, the Cable Tranny DOESN'T mean more power than a Hyrdo Tranny...the B18B1 motor is still putting out the same power....its not the tranny...Older tranny were cable tranny's...the clutch was operated via cable....in a hydro tranny, the clutch is poerated hydrualiclly. Now, you car is older, it came with a Cable Tranny. In that sense, it is less work to swap in a motor that untizlies a cable tranny. You can put in a Hydro tranny, but you'll need to do a hydro-cable conversion if you do...hasport has a kit for this. The B18B1 with a Hydro tranny isn't any more powerful than a cable tranny set-up, or vise versa, because of the tranny. Cable or Hydro refers to HOW THE TRANNY/CLUTCH IS OPERATED. A 95 B18B1 motor swap in your car would be more powerful than a 90 B18A1. This is because the MOTOR is more powerful. The B18A1 swap will be a little easier, but still, the B18B1 swap isn't hard. Again, this is only because your car uses the older tranny set-up, a cable clutch set-up.The B18A1 uses a cable clutch set-up, and the B18B1 uses a hydraulic clutch set-up. This means it is less work to swap in the motor swap that uses a cable clutch set-up, since you car uses this. If you swap in a motor swap with a hydro tranny, you have to convert it to work with your car...hence a hydro-cable conversion....still...it's not hard...and again....this HAS NO BEARING ON POWER. The B18B1 would be the same power output, whether it came with a hydro or cable tranny. It comes with a hydro tranny, but this doesn't make it any less or more powerful, this is just the process by which the clutch/transmission is operated....so no....a B18B1 won't have any more powerful if you used a cable tranny from an A1 than if iut had the proper tranny....cable/hydro has NOTHING to do with power output.

You do know this thread is a 6 year old thread from 2003, correct?? Even if the pricing numbers the member gave were high (which it did sound high, even for the time, I agree), keep in mind prices have changed in the last 6 years for b-series, especially with the advent of K-series swaps cutting into demand.
