b20b or b18b

i have been doing some research and found that the b20b comes with weak sleeves. i was either thinking to resleeve the block and do a complete rebuild of the b20b, or buying a b18b and having it resleeved to 84, which would make it way stronger than the stock b20 could ever be. this motor would end up being turboed as well. o, and should i make it vtec or no vtec. i have heard that vtec isn't good for turbos because the cams overlap or something like that. not quite sure. so if somebody could elaborate on the whole vtec turbo thing, that would be great. o, one more thing, does anyone know where i could find a good b20b or b18b longblock for sale, complete with axles? thanks in advance, sorry for the long post.

a engine turboed without vtec in ur case a b20b will pull really well when the turbo kicks in, but with vtec like the b18c will tend to spin the tires through vtec.

so basically your saying that if i put vtec on the b20, then the tires will just spin through it, with a turbo?

yes thats what i have seen to be true. my friend has a cr-vtec with a turbo and he spins his tires all through vtec.

Ok first the b20b is the B18B block bored out. In the end the two will be the same, exactly the same.
2nd Also spinning through vtec, and only vtec? But the turbo ls setup won't? That has to be one of the top ten dumbest things I have seen someone post on these boards.
3rd Do a search and you will find loads of information about LS/VTEC and B20/VTEC and CRVTEC etc. It will be faster and easier than posting and waiting o replies. IMO and other veteran members here if you don't search first then you are not eager enough to learn!

no one said anything about a ls not spinning its tires. all i was saying is a engine with a turbo and vtec will spin its tires when vtec kicks in. and i know this because i have seen it happen.

Wider Tires Is Needed Or 17x8 Will Do Fine Cause I Have One That Spin Like Crazy On 15's No Traction After 4k Rpm. 16's Still Spins.

if i'm goin to put 17's on my crx, why not just put 20 inch crome rims?

chrome would weigh u down like a mofo like 50 pounds a wheel

Ok, since no one actually gave a remotly correct answer as to why Vtec isn't the most optimul set-up for FI apps, I'll answer it....Turbocharged system's tend not to like High Overlap cams. High overlap cams can create a problem with stravng the turbo at higer rpm's...which equals a less effecient turbo at times. Inthis regard, a low overlap cam is best, this is why companies like crower make all their turbo cams with a low overlap. Now, a regualr Honda cam (non-vtec) has a lower overlap, but the Vtec cam lob is a high overlap cam lob...hence, the high overlap can at times create an less effecient turbo and strave the turbo at times, depending on the turbo/motor set-up. This is why people say "it's not good to boost vtec." In true, it is a misconception that Vtec can't shouldn't be boost just cuz it's Vtec. It's just the less than optimal set-up due to the high overlap cam lob...that being said, if you boost a Vtec motor, or any motor, even non-vtec, if you get low overlap cams like the turbo cams crower makes, it will help reduce the issue with turbo's and high overlap cams, since the cams have a lower overlap. The reason that a non-vtec motor is considered better suited for Forced Inductio apps is due to the issue of high overlap cams creating a less effiecent turbo at high rpm's due to some possible turbo starvation issues.
Second, if you plan to run High boost, re-sleeve the block with AEBS or Darton Sleeves....the AEBS sleeves can handle upwards of 55psi...which is way more than any of us will ever run. If you do a search, you'll find a thread from awhile ago where I talk about the AEBS sleeves, which are of a "wet-sleeve" design. And as whtteg said, the B20B is basically a bored out B18...the boring out = thinner cylinder walls, which = less boost. If you want high boost, you'll want to do it right....re-sleeve the block.
3rd...there no need for 20" wheels, chrome or otherwise...20" chrome wheels are just tacky, especially on a CRX. If you want a wide thread patch, like a 205-215mm thread (7.5-8"), you don't necessarily need to get bigger rims, like 17-18"...you can find 15-16" rims with a 205-215mm contact patch if you look around.

i don't claim to know everything about boosting, but i have done my research. there was a post on AF a little while ago that talked about the best stock block to boost http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t127184.html and remember, they are talking about stock blocks. secondly, import tuner did a power page issue where they did an ls/vtec engine and dyno'd it at 10psi of boost and there is a dramatic improvement. http://www.importtuner.com/tech/0104it_frankenstein/ so as whtteg said, "those who don't search and read are not eager to learn something new"
