A Thesis for an english report:
The 240sx is the most popular car among drifting fanatics in the U.S.
compared to that of the ASE86 Levin/ Trueno, Nissan Skyline, Toyota Supra, and Mazda RX-7: the Nissan 240sx is well liked for its driftability, power potential, and availability.
I would like anyone's knowledge on the subject/ any opinions or personal experiences!

Well, natch its got availability over the Skyline. We never got any Skylines over here.
And, if you really want to be specific to the states then you should call the AE86's by their stateside name; Toyota Corolla GT-S.
You've really got a weak premise there, speaking as someone who wrote a newspaper column for two race seasons. It doesn't have any hook, any purpose, nor does it give a good reason why the reader should care why the 240SX is so popular amongst drifters.
Try this; "Recently, because of backlash against the Hollywood image of import rodding, the import rodding world has shifted its attention away from showy drag cars and towards the more skill oriented drift scene."
There, now instead of boring the reader with comparing and contrasting a bunch of numbers, statistics, and technical terms, you're discussing a change in trends and mentality brought on because of a major mainstream event.
That's more likely to get you the A you're looking for, I'm sure.

are you blind?
he just gave you his opinion.
your topic is lame if your reader isn't informed.
it'd be far easier to explain the movement of the import scene from the show/drag scene to the drift scene, like octagon said.
maybe you should talk about why these people are choosing the 240sx over other cars in america that are inexpensive and rwd, like mustangs or camaros.
and don't say that those cars can't drift. they can be had, and built up, for less than your 240. so they're an option.

So why do so many americans pick the 240sx overmustangs and camaros? Why didnt we see a mustang in the D1 grand prix?!

Hey Drifter S*E*,
when writing essays/articles/reports/etc, one has to take the audience into account - in this case I assume it's your teacher and fellow students, and I take it they're not automotive experts - so keep the technical jargon to a minimum. Use wording that they can understand to draw them in and keep them there. Also, don't forget to include why you are writing on this topic (what will the reader benefit from reading this report).
Use plenty of examples/support/evidence.
For example: 'Front engine, rear wheel drive cars are the best choice for drifting because ........'
Best of luck!

The 240sx is cheaper than the mustangs and camaros. I also think there is a psychological reason here. Mustangs and Camaros are fast. It brings great satisfaction when you've successfully taken something that's generally slow and made it fast. That's just what I think

Enzo, you're dead wrong on the cost of 240SX's versus the cost of Mustangs and Camaro/Firebirds. Generally speaking, 240SX's held their value fairly well over the years, especially the S14 generation. Now, by comparison, you could pick up an 80's 305 Camaro/Firebird or 5.0L Mustang for under $1000 without breaking a sweat. For $5000, you'll have an LT1 Camaro/Firebird or 4.6L Mustang GT in your driveway.
And if you shop around carefully enough, $15,000 will take you home an LS1 Camaro/Firebird.
They're great performance bargains.
As for you, SE, the 240SX is very closely associated with drifting and was sold in above average numbers in the States. Corolla GT-S's are rarities, as many hot hatches from the 80's are in the states (c'mon, when was the last time you saw an Omni GLH blow by you?). Regrettable as it seems now, people just weren't buying RWD sporty Corollas in 1984. RX7's, while not prohibitively expensive, require specialized shops to keep them properly running, especially when something goes wrong. Beyond that the cars simply aren't well known. When was the last time someone told you "You know, Cressidas kick ass." or "Man, did you see that Starion?". It's a new thing hereabouts, so there's a certain lack of knowledge. What is being said commonly is that the 240SX is the best, therefore the average lemming of a fan flocks towards the 240SX.
That's it, plain and simple. People see mostly 240SX's drifting, so they also drift 240SX's.

The reason it is so popular is because it has been featured in many magazines, grift movies, fast and furious ect.
the average american is influenced by the media. Seeing this car do these things makes them like it. If they saw a Corolla drifting in a bunch of videos then they would be popular.
Also the availability of modifications for the car makes it more popular. There are drift specific suspension components for the car and many other things.
I think the reason Americans pick the 240sx over the rest is because they've seen it on tv and in videos.
As for comparing it to Supras, RX7's, Skylines and Levins. Well Supras are expensive because they have more cylinders, more parts to brake, are rare ect.
RX7, its rotary which means rebuilt after 100000kms, which is expensive, as well as parts to modify.
Skyline, States dose not have any(one or two )
Levin, just cause it says Toyota on the back, and not enough people have done the car to its potential, but i think its an amazing drift car
O and I think there should be more exotics drifting. ie. Porsche 944's. they drift beautifully. almost seems like they are built for it:)

goddammit...how many times have i told you man? the AE86 is NOT ALWAYS a better car then the 240SX!! why do you just ASSUME this without any proof? just because Katsuhiro Ueo won a couple of rounds with his recently doesn't mean shit. take a look at the number of D1 rounds won by S-Chassis (240SX) cars and compare it to AE86 and you will see the S-Chassis out-wins the AE86. AE86's are harder to drift, rarer, usually cost more to buy and to build up, and, since they're older, they break more often. IT IS NOT A BETTER CAR! if anything, they are even. and every personal AE86 is different then every personal 240SX's. so yes, there are certain AE86's out there that are better then certain 240's. but it's all about how they're built up, but over-all, the 240SX is a more popular car just because it's way more common then an AE86, especially in north america.
and like i've always said, i don't care how many people own them or how popular they get, i'm still getting a 240SX because i love them and have done so for a long time. no matter how over-mediated they get, i'll still own one and love it, and i don't care how many people call me a ricer or bandwagon jumper, cause I'LL know i'm not and that's all that matters...

And Please just try and change the subject of your report all together because no one in your class could prolly care less about ur Drifting topic. Why don't you just come out and say "I'm a RICER!"

Well Supras are expensive because they have more cylinders,
i can't believe you said that. . .
the main reason, like octagon said, is that they are common cars. and drifting is a big japanese motorsport, so the likelihood of finding someone at the drift EVENTs with a domestic isn't highly likely.
but going to drift meets and local stuff would probably turn up some domestic drifters.
hell, from the club4ag coverage i've seen, it's not uncommon to see BMW's there...
the 2 main reasons, in order, are:
1. it's an import sport, so you'll need a rwd import (influenced by JDM choices in drift cars), and since it's an import thing, you won't find these guys going domestic, but they can, and it wouldn't be "wrong"
2. availability. there are more 240s, cheaper, than supras/rx7s, and more, just in general, than RWD ae86 cars.

Well the reason you see more 240sx's winning then AE86's is just what eveyone has been saying their are more 240's than 86's. I mean come on if their are 10 240s vs 3 86s in a drift compitition. Then more times then not a 240 is going to win. Now the 240 is a awsome car and better around car than the 86 but in drifting the 86 IMO MIGHT be better. And thats just because its lighter and has better weight distribution.

I need to take a class on how to work computers I cant even get my probe pictures from the file to this page/forum. How do you do this?
Any how to answer many questions my uncle bought a smaller fuel tank for the probe and we were able to fit the differential in there and the rear CV axles were cut from his 1997 GMC pick up truck (the tranny was bad on that) we took them back on base were a friend of my uncle split the axles and shortened them by 2 3/4 inches. Yes the suburban tranny is automatic, but in my previous reply I also said for that reason the drifts were very hard to start but easy to hold through out the turn.
The front of the chasis was bent out ward to about 3 1/4 inches the exterior of the body wasnt changed too much by this alteration. we had to run with out a hood for a while ,till Xtreme Imports down the street got the new one in with the air duct on it.the rear frame was bent inward about 4 1/2 inches to help for space with the lift of the rear chasis now the suspension was able to fit and be more stiff/ stable while going side ways. the chasis is hollow so the titanium inserts where stuffed inside then caps were made to hold them in place this created alot of vibration inside the car but the car didnt last long enough for us to solve this problem.( the bus accident) When I was drifting or at least trying to I would pull of a cheap knock off of the " clutch trick" I would come to the turn in over drive 3 put it backin to neutral then right as I would spin the steering wheel I would put it in to drive. If I was losing speed I down shift to over drive 3 or 2, but never one. Any more questions? Please give me more I like this, maybe you guys can learn something, no offense intended.

Ok hold on I live in the tidewater area and I have never heard of Xtreme Imports I've heard of Abacus, Steen, Performance Unlimited, Millenium Autosports, and various other but have never heard of This Xtreme Imports, why don't you post up a number and someone in specific so I can get all the specifics of this. By the way I work on cars for a living and I have never seen an independant rear suspension on any GMC pick-up, so I don't see how you got those cv axles, and the differential housing, and on top of that if you claim your car had added that much weight there's no way you could get times like that especially with an IRS out-back. So as far as I'm concerned you're a choade and you need not reply your word means nothing on this board.
