Well the link doesn't actually work there bud.
And I think it's the first amendment to the US Constitution that says:
"...Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances..."
In terms of what that framers of the amendment meant when they wrote the first amendments - if you read the actual words of what they legislated - it gives the right for not only one to hold a view but it also gives folk the right to disagree with you and voice that belief.
And it doesn't differentiate between the rights of the dixie chicks, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Senator McCarthy, Roman Polanski, George W Bush or even the klansman - it provides the free exercise of the freedom of speech to each an every view.
The first amendment has been tested often in the courts of the United States under the guise of all sorts of issues but it was Voltaire (1694-1778), who incidentally was French who said:
"...I do not agree with what you say, but I would be prepared to die to defend your right to say it..."
It was the willingness to defend those freedoms and rights enshrined in that misquoted and misunderstood bunch of words on a piece of paper that so many serviceman have served, been killed or wounded to protect.
It was that willingness to protect the rights and to offer a richer future for the progeny that brought so many migrants to the US and the persecution on issues of creed, ethnicity, caste, religion, custom and belief that drove them from the countries from whence they came that made the US the economic and military power it has become. It is on the backs of all those who have toiled the land and fought to preserve their freedoms that make a country great.

While I dislike a lot of the French culture and laugh at their speed of surrender to any threats, but I don't believe that France has an abundance of communists.
Freedom of expression cuts a lot of ways. I support the right of people like bm2boats to say "get out" if he wants as well as support CBass and T to say whatever drivel they want. We'll be argueing the same things until we're all blue in the face and just about nobody is going to change their mind.
So lets all go get a beer and let the pissing and moaning continue!

France's entire Government is Communist. That is there polictical Pary. Just like Bush is Rep. and Clinton is a Dem.
France did help us out to again OUR freedom. How many times did we pay them back? what about the Billions we told France, That's OK, you don't need to pay us back. Now, How does our good buddies pay us back? They Disgraced the graves or Brave men from USA, UK, AUand Spain. Those dirtly little Cowards. God, I pray every single night to meet one of the freaks that did that to those brave men who helped fight to give them their freedom.
And as for you Taranaki, I have a few choice words I would love to tell you. But, You would run and tell someone @ AF, that someone thinks dirrent then you and you will have them Censored like the little boy/ girl that you are. You don't even list a Country and town that you are from.

If I wanted to have this censored,I would do it myself.I am a moderator at this site,it is part of my responsibility to ensure that members stick to the user guidelines that they agreed to when they join AF.
For your information,I am 40 years old, live in New Zealand, and I am a moderator on this board.
LET ME EXPLAIN HOW THE BOARDS WORK.
A number of members on any internet forum are usually appointed as 'moderators'.Basically, they are given access to tools that can edit and manage what is published on the site.
If a member feels that something is not right about an item posted to the board, they can report it to a 'moderator',who will assess the piece in question, and edit/remove it as neccesary.
I received several complaints from other members about your appalling comments regarding the French. If "Hoping that they all get AIDS and die"is not a grossly ignorant and racist statement, then I don't know how you could improve on it.
From your private message,it is clear that you are new to the internet and have no idea how forums work.If you continue to make abusive and racist comments, you will be permanently denied access to this site.
Feel free to print this off and take it to the judge with whatever else you have, heh'll probably find you hilarious. :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

If it wasn't for your arrogant dogma, I would almost find your statement about Taranaki's lack of location ironically amusing...
Hey, it's a free board and you entitled to your opinion but personally I find it abhorrent that innocents have died in an illegal war, the US considers itself to above international law by refusing to sign the war crimes treaty and yet expects everyone else to abide by it, the populace of Great Britain were blatantly lied about the potential threat of WMDs to British soil and that the whole sorry conflict is lapped up by some under some jingoistic banners where it's all about controlling oil.
I just hope that after the US secures whatever it wants in the way of cheap crude from the puppet government it installs in Iraq that they can get the hell out of the place and remove the UN sanctions that they pushed for that have caused so much suffering to the civilian populace.
Iraq would never have been the military power it became in the first place if the US had not interfered and provided logistical and military support for its war against Iran - in yet another misguided attempt at being a colonial imperalist bully boy.

 "illegal war" makes as much sense as "jumbo shrimp"
the US considers itself to above international law by refusing to sign the war crimes treaty and yet expects everyone else to abide by it
Anything related to the UN is a waste of time, space and materials. I concur that the US should not expect everyone else to abide by it. We should exit the UN and let them drift away.
, the populace of Great Britain were blatantly lied about the potential threat of WMDs to British soil and that the whole sorry conflict is lapped up by some under some jingoistic banners where it's all about controlling oil.
If - and I stress if - they do not find any WMD then the best you can say is that the information provided was incorrect. I've yet to see anyone produce evidence that claims of WMD were a lie. The screams before hand were to give the UN more and more time - not that there were no WMD.
I just hope that after the US secures whatever it wants in the way of cheap crude from the puppet government it installs in Iraq that they can get the hell out of the place and remove the UN sanctions that they pushed for that have caused so much suffering to the civilian populace.
Yeah yeah - the US causes civilian casualties no matter what it does but its ok that Saddam slaughters hundreds of thousands. I notice that you're happy pointing out the UN sanctions pushed by the US and let all the other nations slide when they pushed to get the sanctions lifted.
At least we are both happy spouting our ideological viewpoints on this.
Iraq would never have been the military power it became in the first place if the US had not interfered and provided logistical and military support for its war against Iran - in yet another misguided attempt at being a colonial imperalist bully boy.
The incessant crying that the US is responsible for all the ills that occur in Iraq (and I do mean all) has gotten so shrill, its down right funny.
I see some of the newer people to the board get bent way out of shape and while I can understand why, I’ve pretty much got past anyone here actually being opened minded. A lot of lip service is given to it, but the fact is the same people spout the same rhetoric each thread that passes by. I know I’m included in it, but at least I can get a laugh out of the rest of you guys. It’s actually comical reading some of the ranting around here.

I've attempted to not use foul language in my posts and I was stating my opinion about I find the conflict in Iraq abhorrent. I don't expect everyone to agree with me - in the same way I don't agree with the xenophobic rhetoric being espoused by some of the other posts in this thread.
In terms of the WMD, the point I was making is not about the threat or existence of WMDs - sure there could or still could be WMDs around. However, it's become abundantly clear that the information supplied by the Blair Government to the British public to justify military involvement was at best a slanted spin on poor and obsolete intelligence and at worst a downright lie - especially in respect of the 45 minute claim and the 'sexing-up' of the report by the man leading the review of the intelligence - who wasn't an intelligence expert at all but actually Tony Blair's Spin Doctor and PR man.
At the time of the conflict I did not agree with the military action and the evidence that has come out about the justification for the conflict continues to harbour my doubts. I'm entitled to my opinion and stated it without resorting to suggesting that anyone who doesn't agree with me is:
a) A Communist
b) Should leave the US for holding a contrary view
What I pointed out right at the beginning of this thread is that the oft-cited First Amendment provides for freedom of speech, a free media to debate and question the actions of leaders and right to espouse and hold beliefs.
I wanted to remind that the idea of free speech and the defence of debate isn't a US innovation but something that long ago men like Voltaire fought for...
The persecution for belief, religion, creed, caste and race in their homeland created the wave of migration to the US that formed its foundation - the Quakers, the indentured settlers from Europe who rose against their British Colonialists rulers in revolution, the displaced European migrants after both world wars, the Irish amongst others.
When we look at countries where the populace are oppressed by the state, the first people they lock up are the poets and the writers and the first casualty is the truth when no one can question the state.

And you will quickly note that nobody in the government is calling for people voicing their opinion to get out. Otherwise Micheal Moore would have been gone long ago.
You are right that the first amendment covers freedom of expression but it is a two way street. Someone calling someone else names is as valid as someone calling another person a liar. It’s all about the person’s ideological perspective. bm2boats called people communists and said get out. T calls people rednecks. (not that there aren’t other people doing the same). I find it funny when the people who point out the freedom of expression usually do so when trying to shut up someone else’s criticism (outlandish as it may be).
My overall point still stands. The forum degenerated long ago to ideological rhetoric thread after thread. Its both monotonous and entertaining.

and nowhere have I breached user guidelines.
Its funny that you make such acenine statements and have the balls to say my ideas are backwards.
Anyway......on with the argument, the personal attacks are done.
Actually, you repeated make personal attacks on other board members, that's a breach of the user guidelines, IIRC. :icon16:
It doesn't take balls to say that your ideas are backwords, it takes at most a moderate level of intelligence to see that. Not even moderate, I think most brain damaged people could debate your posts effectively.

However, as I've watched the brain damage do that debating, I'd say they are not doing a very good job.

Yogs, there is your rhetoric right there. I am a backwards right winger who can't even debate with brain damaged retards.
Once again, your rhetoric of calling the opposition stupid is INEFFECTIVE and only makes YOU look more incoherrent and out of touch with the truth.

Once again, your rhetoric of accusing the opposition of speaking nothing but rhetoric makes you look very foolish, and hypocritical.
I think it was rather effective, it made me chuckle, and gave Yogs a good jab at me, so all in all, it turned out pretty well.
I don't see how anything I have said here could make me appear incoherent, or in any way "out of touch with the truth", which is a very vague and meaningless phrase. Considering that everything that is stated here is an opinion, occasionally with facts that can support that opinion, "the truth" is very much a matter of opinion, and very open to interpretation.
The right wingers here would argue that invading Iraq was the best thing to do for the US. Some would argue that was the worst thing. I would argue both, because both are true, in my opinion. It may seem contradictory, but that's the way it is.

Ahh.....now were getting somewhere. I may believe one thing, and you the other. But who's to tell us we are right and wrong? Thus the advent of debating.......

I think I'm rating this as one of the stupidest threads ever.
I mean just read this: Everyone has a right to voice what he or she believes is right. THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MAKES AMERICA GREAT. If you don't like America then move to France with those other friggin Communist freaks.
That's in the topic post. Couldn't he see the horrible, horrible irony in that statement? Sounds like this guy would make a great commuist dictator. "If you have something bad to say about our country, just leave our country." I'm not going to say that you shouldn't have written it, just because it's contradictory statement, but I'm not about to tell you to leave my country just because I disagree with this statement. Some people.

I guess that you will have this censored also.
You're a moron.
Give who, who's freedom???? Without France, the States'd be like Canada, New Zealand or Australia- an independent state that recognises Lizzie as thier head of state, so you can't be talking about USA fighting for any freedom.
If you are referring to the War on Iraq as a war for freedom, then you are sadly mistaken, all it's doing is taking away freedom, one by one.
France being communist is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, do you even KNOW what you are talking about???? Thought not

Well, this thread started badly, and went downhill steadily from there. The concensus off opinio seems to be that the original post has little or no factual basis or merit, and now the thread has degenerated into the usual cliched keyboard-whippings.
If nobody objects,I shall close this thread very soon and consign it to the dustbin of failed debates.

In the abscence of objections,I will do the deed with just one passing thought. Its normally rather petty to pick up on spelling errors ,but there's a wonderful Irony in the title of this thread. The plural of 'hero' is 'heroes'.Unless you are speaking French,in which case, what was posted is correct.
