First of all, you can shift the probe's auto trans. And it is worth it because it allows you to shift at a higher rpm. I do it every once in a while. Also, you can downshift too, but you have to put it into neutral first and be at a low rpm. But it is possible. Have fun.

Push the button, then go 1-2-d and just let it shift on its own after drive. Overdrive is not accessable through the shifter.

If you are drag racing, don't manually shift the auto tranny. The computer will do it much faster. It will shift at the best RPM if you just keep the gas pedal mashed to the floor. If you are autocrossing or road racing, then manually shifting the tranny (or more like limiting the highest gear) would be best so that the car doesn't shift out of the power band as you go thru the road course.

Probably the best power mod for you auto tranny guys would be the IAT mod as seen here: http://home.comcast.net/~mmunoz70/iat.htm

Do not disable the IAT during daily driving. It may shorten the lifetime of your tranny.

You should also get a tranny cooler and change the fluid frequently to keep the tranny reliable.
