2 Different Volkswagen Rabbits 1.8T, I guess that's what they are/were.
1ST Run: I was on the highway coming back from Clinton and I was behind the Wagen at a light, I can tell he saw me behind him and he intentionally pulled out slowly so that I would go around/side by side with him.
Once I took the bait and pulled even with him I heard his intake roar and his exhaust kick out. So I nailed it, he already had the jump sort of because he was in front when we took off.
We were side by side by 50 mph and then I started to pull on him, he sort of caught up at 80 but then my VI kicked in and it was good night Wagen.
I shut down and 120 because I can tell he was trying to catch up but I just wanted to keep/put him in his place.
2ND Run: Was today going down the road to work, it was a pretty blue Wagen with a fat exhaust and it was lowered with 3 gauges in the window. I can tell he saw me behind him too because when the light changed (he started out in front of me) he nailed the throttle and so did I, I caught up with him but then we had to shut down because of on-coming traffic.
By the time we started up again he was behind me at the light, I knew it was on, so I nailed it and he was behind til about 70 and he started closing fast but I still maintained my lead, I ran all the way to 118 and then had to shut down because of traffic coming up but he was still pulling hard and gaining, so I really don't know what the outcome would've been if we'd kept going, he probably would've caught me and walked me because of his mods.
I gave him the thumbs up.
Anyone know anything about those VW's? What do they run 0-60 and the 1/4 and what is their top end speed. They seem pretty fast for small cars and his exhaust sounded pretty sweet for the second I was behind him.
Any info on them is appreciated.

I know the 1.8t 180 GTI stick does 60 in around 7.1sec while the 150hp(heard that it made 160 at the cranck but VW underatted it) models do 60 in around 7.5. But the older ones I dont know much. There use to be a 4dr 1.8t with 150hp doing 7.9 to 60. But the new R32 GTI with 237 VR6 and awd is doing 6.7 to 60.

Thanks for correcting me, I said Rabbits but I wasn't sure what they were, that shows you how old I am. They were GTIs. Do you know what they do in the quarter?
The ones I ran upon had exhausts, chips and were lowered with guage pods in the windows.
I knew about the R32 already, those things are beasts, I wouldn't have even tried it.

what year max do u have again? I know those 180hp ones with a chip can get up to 220 easily with a chip. Also there is a GTI with 200hp V6. Did you race a two door or a 4dr?

all 5th gens+ have a variable intake. it just opens up a second intake runner at 4K RPM.

alrite, as deadmaninc said, just with a chip they can easily can go up to 220, and if I'm not mistaken people put their GTI's in 14's on 1/4 mile. So anyway, a guy I know tell me that his friend's GTI 5 spd will kill my 2k 5 spd Max (both stock vs. stock, except I got wider wheels/tires). Well, we'll have to see that. Once it's done I'll let you know, but those GTI's ARE fast, especiall with a chip and a mod. Stock vs. stock, I think our Maxes should take them out.

I have a 2k. I raced a 2 door both times, I didn't even know that they dropped a V6 in those things. They were both pretty new, I'd say 2002 or 2003, they looked hott too.
All I can say is that if you plan to run them, watch out they are fast, especially once they start to roll about 60mph or so and then they come on again at about 95 or so after that I think they have a higher top end than the 2k Max so I'll say he would've walked me after 120 but I had both of them all the way up to 120 and shutdown so I'm really not sure what would've happened after then.
It was fun but sorta dangerous especially the one here at home and plus as I shutdown a PoPo was coming up the other side of the highway both times and I managed to get down below 60 before he could get in range to clock me.
I like those little cars and I would definitely buy one, especially with a V6 and a turbo that thing would fly off da handle.
I think a 2k2/2k3 could take them easily off the line, if they can run 14's with just a chip and exhaust imagine what they run with turbos or sc/may be even n2O.
Anybody know of anyone who has one turbo'd/sc'd or with n2O?

those are chick cars, but they can and WILL kill you if they have the right mods. very simple mods that add tons of HP. Nice cars other than the chick factor like Miatas.

Why did you call them "Chick Cars?" I really don't see that, I think they look kinda cool and they are fast, I wouldn't race one with a Turbo/sc or n20.

I know you can get 350 with some simple mods out of the 1.8 turbo and 500 with a tt setup on the VR6 engine.

I know you can get the TDI disel to do about 155 with a boost contoller. Add a intercooler add that could give a good 15hp Add propane and nitrous and you can get it to do 245hp depending on how much u have of nos. And all this for less than $1000
