Hello everyone. I was just hoping I could get some advice from actual experienced drivers out there. I love imports and drifting and I am very interested in finding any info I can on these subjects. However, when I'm reading various magazines and boards, the technical jargon is WAY over my head. I am currently enrolled in UTI (mechanical institute) to become a mechanic so that I can get a good base in the automotive industry, but half the stuff I hear people talk about is info only automotive engineers would know.. My main question is, how does someone who knows nothing about the entire import/drifting etc. scene get there hands on more knowledge without "knowing" people in the business? Sorry for the long post, but it seems that I have apparently missed out on "how to" class in the import scene.

Reading, reading, reading, reading, reading, reading, reading, reading.
That's a good place to start. The "import scene" is currently saturated with magazines devoted to all of its nuances, plus there are 'net sites available too that are chock full of info.
Also, you have numerous videos (such as those available from Primedia and the Best Motoring DVD's) and a few cable TV shows (which are still a bit weak in content, but becoming better).
Finally, you have national clubs for all sorts of cars. What ride do you want? There's probably a club out there devoted to it that can furnish you with more information than you'd ever care to know. Also, there's the NASA (National Auto Sport Association) and the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) which are treasure troves of information as well as sanction amateur, semi-pro, and pro racing events for cars very much like the ones you're probably after.
And don't worry, there's plenty of facts here at AF too.

He also forgot to mention the fact that it is next to impossible to find a 240sx with a SR20DET for sale... Seeing as they were never an option here.
And to do a swap can be expensive... and to buy a car thats already been swapped can be very expensive.

these things are true. i forget that i am in japan and that every one or almost every one on here is in the states, over here they are 180sx's but that is off the subject. if you cant find a 240sx with what you need just get an import light rear wheel drive car and try that out, but do be safe and do it by your self. if you have some one with you there is a chance that you might get sloppy and hurt your self or who ever is riding with you. sloppy meaning showing off, wait a while and get the feel for it before you show your buddys what you can do.
