Hey howz it everyone?
I'm buyin a car soon and I dunt know what car I should buy?!
I always have liked Nissan Skyline's but only type I can afford is Skyline GTS (R32), I just loved the looks and all but my love for Skyline is gettin old. I have seen lots of Skylines around in Christchurch, New Zealand but I hardly ever see Nissan Silvia.
I look at some cars and I happen to see a 1994 Nissan Silvia Q's but I couldn'tafford it so I decided to go down some years 1991/1992 Nissan Silvia S13 with **SR20-DE** Engine.
(Affordable for a student)
~1998cc EFI DOHC 16-valve 4cyl
~119kW@6400rpm (108kW FWD)
188Nm@4800rpm (178Nm FWD)
~-RWD 5-speed - 4 sp auto -FWD 5-speed
And I think 1992-1993 Nissan Skyline GTS have **RB20-DE** Engine. ( Affordable for me)
~1998cc EFI DOHC 24-valve 6 cyl
~116kW@6400rpm
~184Nm@5200rpm
~-RWD 5spd -4spd auto
I have study on these two cars but I am still a newbie, I dunt know what car gives better perfomance.
One thing I know is Skyline is heavier cuz of the engine so Silvia is faster but my knowledge tells me it has a weaker engine?!
This is going to be my first car and I dont know what I should look for in a car... They both have similar horse power and both same price that I can afford.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I get my restricted license (on Auto), I can only drive Auto but I want to drive Manual but 85% people I know failed restricted license several times. I need a car asap and I dunt have time to learn how to drive well in Manual. (I mean well as in slow so I can pass my license, I like to travel fast.)
If I pass Auto restricted license I decided to get a car that day but it has to be an auto if I fail I will sit in restricted next time.
( I dunt know anyone who would lend me a working Manual car so.. yea)
Anywayz sorry for talkin s-h-i-t , I dunt know if i do get an auto is it worth modifiying it or is it waste of money on an auto car?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So EVERYONE, GIVE ME YOUR INFO AND OPINION on what car I should get for my first car, 1991-1992 Nissan Silvia (S13) or Skyline GTS (R32).
I think Skyline GTS is not worth money because it is not GTS-T or GTR or GT4, I like the look of Skyline, quiet SEXY!
Silvia is not that good lookin as Skyline however faster

According to the statistics you posted, the Silvia has the more powerful engine(119kw/188nm vs. 116kw/184nm). The Skyline is also heavier because of the chassis. I don't know much about non-GT-Rs, but I would venture to guess that the R32 GT-S you're looking still weighs about 3000lbs, if not more. The PS13 Silvia probably weighs around 2600lbs or so. If the Silvia weighs much less and has a bit more power, obviously its performance would be better. None of them were fwd, either.
So EVERYONE, GIVE ME YOUR INFO AND OPINION on what car I should get for my first car, 1991-1992 Nissan Silvia (S13) or Skyline GTS (R32).
Neither. Just get yourself an automatic Pulsar or Primera or something, and learn to drive with it first. They should be cheaper anyway. Practice driving someone else's manual car, and then maybe you can step up to a Silvia or Skyline later.

Thanks for filling my knowledge with ur car wisdom...
Now I know which car puts off the better performance!
But is better performance most important thing to look in a car?
Also which is better when buying a car, get an older year but with low km's or earlier year but high km's.
My choices are $5000 1991 Nissan Silvia (No idea of kms), $5600 1992 Silvia (140,000kms) and 1992 or $5000 1993 Skyline (R32) (93,000kms).
I like Silvia's engine and performance but I like Skyline's body, what am I suppose to do? Choose a car that I like the engine or the outside with a lil bad performance?

I already know how to drive in an auto, auto's are so easy to drive.
Is it worth buying either Nissan Silvia or Skyline *AUTO* and doing it up or is it waste of time and money?
Could you suggest me a car that is cheap, good, fast and reliable? As well as it has good looks without doin up too much.
THANK YOU FOR UR REPLY~ PLZ CONTINUE TO DO SO

I'm guessing your in New Zealand. THey changed the rules and even if you learn and take the test in an auto you can still (legally) drive a manual

I went for my licences in auto too, n my gts is a manual...
bout the silvia being faster tho...
my flatmate has a 1995 silvia, s14 i think, n they are ment to had a tad more power than the ealier ones i think, but it don't look like it when you line them up, the silvia is out the back door. we've got similar mods and both our cars and motors are in good nick.
i may be biased, but i think th r32 skyline is one of the best looking cars on th road, especially th 2 door... :iceslolan

Thanks for ur opinion, did u sit ur restricted on auto and now drive manual or were u sitting full license...
What do think of the performance between two cars?
ONLY tell me ting that u know and is a fact not a opinion.

i know (fact) that my car faster than my flatmates s14 q's, havent timed them yet, but there's quite a difference. maybe the rb20de responds better to mod's than the sr20de? not sure...
and i think it was my restricted licence, but it was a lil while ago so it might have been just before th law change??

Both cars are fairly underpowered with either motor. I've owned an R32 GTS manual coupe. It went well for what it was but was by no means a rocket ship.
The skyline suffers from a bit of excessive weight 1240 kgs (2733 lbs) vs 1180 kgs (2601 lbs) but don't believe the stats on the car. Mine with only a pod filter and exhust (2 1/4") made 90kw (120hp) at the wheels. I've seen plenty of SR20DE's dynoed and most fall a bit short of that. They do however have more torque down low thanks in part to a longer stroke and only 4 cylinders.
On a long run the Skyline will out run it a Q's Silvia S13, however the S13 will out handle it due to a much better weight distrabution. They both share basiclly the same gearbox, internally though the outside casing is slightly different.
There are plenty of available upgrades for either but don't expect spectacular numbers from either. Both being N/A and keeping them that way means you will spend more money to gain little. Even headers don't do much, neither do cams unless you go very radical in which plan on having a very narrow power band in the upper 9,000 rpm range.
Stock the SR does not like to rev as much. It is about 1,000 rpms less than the RB motor again bore and stroke dictate that. Over all both are great cars and have pro's and con's either way. Choose what you want more for looks and curising. The skyline also is not a great sound machine aye. So if you plan on putting a lot of audio gear in it get the Silvia, as it distributes sound better.
Niether have stellar brakes either. Both are four stud wheels though the Skyline does have slightly better brakes to start with. You can do a 5 stud converson on either. S14 K's on the S13, and GTS-t Mspec on the GTS.
I prefer the skyline seats for sure but the Silvia seating postion is slightly better. S13's are natorious for chewing tyres up in the rear due to excessive camber as he rear springs are very weak. The Skyline how ever has wishy washy front suspension compared to the Silvia go figure. Anti roll bars are the best option on the Skyline to control some of it.
